The Minstrel Boy is an Irish patriotic song written by Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852) and Toss the Feathers is a traditional Irish folk tune. This arrangement of two Irish folk songs is dedicated to the memory of Danny Pearl, the Wall Street journalist who was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by Islamic Militants in February 2002. The choice of Danny Boy is an obvious one. The arranger, John O'Reilly, always thinks of Danny when he hears this tune since Mr. O'Reilly's daughter was very close to Danny during their high school years. Danny was a violinist and he loved to play fiddle music. The Wearin' of the Green is in the style Danny enjoyed and the lyrics of the song relate to the struggle of the Irish people as they defied the British oppression.Duration: 2.30

£75.00Sussex Carol (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks
The Sussex Carol is a Christmas carol popular in Britain, sometimes referred to by its first line On Christmas night all Christians sing. Its words were first published by Luke Wadding, a 17th-century Irish bishop, in a work called Small Garland of Pious and Godly Songs (1684). It is unclear whether Wadding wrote the song or was recording an earlier composition. Both the text and the tune to which it is now sung were discovered and written down by Cecil Sharp in Buckland, Gloucestershire, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, who heard it being sung by a Harriet Verrall of Monk's Gate, near Horsham, Sussex (hence Sussex Carol). The tune to which it is generally sung today is the one Vaughan Williams took down from Mrs. Verrall and published in 1919.

Her inspiration for the song was the idea that when we are happy or sad, the elements and the natural world are aligned with our feelings. This piece takes its title from an Irish jig of the same name. The melody is here set as a waltz and therefore prents itself much less forthrightly than O'Neill's original tune. A delight!
