    Kerberos - Kjetil Djønne

"Kerberos" was written to Norwegian band Eidanger Pike- og guttekorps, Sigurd Skramsett conductor. When Sigurd Skramsett got in touch and wanted to commision a piece for their anniversary concert in November, I immediately thought of composing a piece about his role in the local bands. He has conducted the band for 15 years and has been important to the whole banding community in Telemark, Norway. My meeting with Sigurd in the summer of 2019 was at Dirigentuka (Conductors week) in Stavanger. We conducted many different types of music, including a blues by Torstein Aagard-Nilsen. All of the music at the course has inspired me in this piece. The name Sigurd originates from Norse mythology and means 'victory' and 'guardian'. KERBEROS is the three-headed dog guarding the entrance to the underworld of Greek mythology. Three heads, representing the past, present and future, became three movements representing three styles, and moods, in this work.Kjetil Djnne

    Oriental Dance - Wilhelm Peterson-Berger

Wilhelm Peterson-Berger (1867 1942), Swedish composer, beloved most of all for his collections of small piano pieces, Frsblomster 1 3 (Flowers from Frs). Peterson-Berger himself, primarily treasured his five symphonies and five operas, but todayit is mainly his songs and piano pieces which are performed. Besides composing he worked as a music critic at the daily paper Dagens Nyheter, and was feared by many for his sharp, sometimes almost vicious, pen.Peterson-Berger originallycomposed Oriental Dance for piano during his studies in Dresden in 1890, and immediately orchestrated the piece. It is one of his earliest pieces, somewhat of a bagatelle, admittedly, which mighthave found its inspiration in Griegs Peer Gyntsuite, yet it has a na ve charm which well compensates for its weakness. Oriental Dance was first performed by the Knstlerverein in Dresden in February, 1890.

Minnen frn Holmen - Jerker Johansson

The first theme played by the solo clarinet was written by Jerker Johansson the summer 1997, when he was composing in Swedish folk music style for an intended radio programme in which his father should participate reading poems in local dialect. Unfortunately, the project was discontinued. In the spring 2015 Mr. Johansson however started to work on the theme again, this time adding a song theme of broader character. Holmen is the name of the homestead where Mr. Johansson's father Arne grew up. It is beautifully located in the parish of Skrv, situated east of Skara, one of the oldest towns in Sweden. At Holmen, the composer spent his childhood summers and his recollections are filledwith many bright moments and happy memories. The piece was premiered May 22, 2015 by the Gteborg Wind Orchestra conducted by the composer.

    King Arthur - Antonio Petrillo

The legendary figure of Arthur, British leader, is mainly the result of folklore and literary invention. According to the tales Arthur, who in the most ancient sources is called "Warlord," defended Great Britain from the Saxon invaders between the fifth and sixth centuries. In the introductory measures of the piece, we can hear the basic themes developing freely one after the other. The first movement (Allegretto - march) describes Arthur with his most faithful riders galloping on his horse for simple rides in the woods or hunting moments. The second movement (Vivace - gigue), describes court dances to celebrate his victories over the Saxons. The third and last movement (Moderato - grandiose) portrays the special relationship between Arthur and Excalibur, the magical and mysterious sword that only he managed to extract from the rock before being proclaimed king. Excalibur's scabbard is said to have the power to protect King Arthur from being wounded in battle.

His song contains the carefree quality of a man who is no ones servant, and lives the hard but joyous life as one who works with his hands for his wages.
