Chanson De Matin (Flute Solo) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brand, Michael

This piece was a quick pot boiler, written in 1899 at the same time as he was completing the Enigma Variations, which was to see his break-through as a composer, but the Chanson has also made its mark as a lovely reminder of late Victorian ballads at their best.

Der Tod und das Machen (Death and the Maiden) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schubert, Franz - De Meij, Johan

Within the history of art song, the 600+ lieder of Franz Schubert stand supreme, though they were often intended purely for performance in his intimate circle of friends. Schubert arranged Der Tod und das Madchen for string quartet (an indication that he was pleased with the song) in 1824. Johan de Meij has adapted the second movement for concert band, where the majestic Death has an even more impressive appearance in the dark glowing sound of winds. Duration: 3.15

A Repton Fantasy (Flexible Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Parry, Hubert C. - Sparke, Philip

for Bb or Eb SoloistSir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) belongs to a forgotten generation of English composers who are often over-shadowed by Sir Edward Elgar, and the result has been that much of their work is little played or forgotten. In Parry's case, he is now mostly remembered for his hymn tunes, such as Jerusalem and Repton, both marvellous melodies, of course. The latter first appeared in Parry's oratorio Judith and was adapted as a hymn tune after the composer's death. The solo part can be played by a trumpet, clarinet or alto saxophone and will give your chosen soloist a chance to shine.Duration: 3:00

Ave Maria (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bruckner, Anton - Kreines, Joseph

Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) is known today primarily for his massive symphonies for orchestra. However, he also composed a number of vocal works for forces of varying size and character, including three settings of the Ave Maria. This setting was originally for alto voice and organ, and ulike the other settings, dates from Bruckner's mature years. It reflects all of the notable characteristics of his style - simple but rich textures, bold and surprising harmonic progressions and a fervently religious mood. Stunning! Duration: 4.00

David of the White Rock (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

This is an ancient Welsh air that was first published in Relics of the Welsh Bards in 1794. Dafydd (David) Owain was a famous Welsh bard who lived on a farm called Gareg Wen (The White Rock) in Eifionydd, Carnarnvonshire, North Wales. Tradition has it that on his deathbed he called for his harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church of Ynys-Cynhaiarn. Lyrics were later added by Ceiriog Hughes, which describe the melody's inspiration. This version for concert band retains all the beauty and simplicity of the original.Duration: 2:45
