£97.00Syrille - Marc Jeanbourquin
In 2009 Marc Jeanbourquin was a trombonist in the harmony orchestra 'La Gerinia' from Marly (Switzerland). To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the summer music camp of its music school, he was commissioned to write a musical fairy tale for the band. Marc Jeanbourquin was inspired by stories written by his wife Lise Jeanbourquin, and so 'Syrielle the story of a fairy who wanted to catch a star', came into being. The theme of Syrielle is presented in the opening bars as a sequence of two chords, which convey the fairy like feeling of calm and mystery. She lives in a forest and is looking for friends. Then she comes across an ogre who also lives alone. When she sees him, she panics and hurts herself. The ogre takes her and cares for her, and the two end up becoming friends. One by one the themes for the two main characters are stated, and eventually evolve into a festive samba. At the end the theme from Syrielle returns, but this time in a major key, so to make a happy end to this musical fairy tale.

Cry Me A River is an American standard, written by Arthur Hamilton in 1953, and in the first instance made known by Julie London's performance. Cry Me A River was also the opening track on the CD 'Crazy Love' by Michael Bubl. He turned it into a swinging big band arrangement, with a James Bond type feel. This arrangement was originally written for Harmony Band with solo voice but is also available for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, baritone or trombone

It is a symphonic poem based on four mythical scenes from the famous Greek hero Theseus. This work begins in Athens, where Theseus is invited to a feast at which it was officially acknowledged that he is the son and successor of King Aegean. In Trip to Crete the composer describes the ship expedition made by our hero. Next in Theseus and the Minotaur the music chronicles the struggle between them. Finally in the last movement Back to Athens a beautiful melody of strong emotional content recounts the victory of our Greek hero.

Manuel de Falla is considered one of the biggest Spanish composers. He was very interested in native Spanish folk music, whose influence is rather noticeable in this piece. The Three Cornered Hat, which was premiered in 1919, is not a ballet in classical sense but a pure Spanish dance. The Miller's Dance is a so-called, Farruca, a typical dance for men, extremely tense, with an acceleration in tempo at the end.

Funeral March of a Marionette was composed in 1872 as part of Charles Gonoud's Suite Burlesque for piano. This suite was intended as a parody of the music critic, Henry Chorley. When he had finished composing the piece, Gonoud decided to keep only the funeral march. This march has been recorded countless times, one of the first being with John Philip Sousa's famous band. The piece is most well known from its use as the theme music to the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

£82.80Solemnity - Alexandre Carlin
Solemnity was composed when the composer came back from his first Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Inspired by all the concert bands performing there, and all the fellow composers met at this occasion, he decided to write a kind of fanfare work, leading to a fast theme on a driving rhythm.The piece begins like a fanfare with a solemn character which gives the title of the work, the brass here have a nice part to play. Then, a new theme full of energy, using the same rhythmic motive as the fanfare theme, is exposed by the high woodwinds and finally by more instruments. The central part is a slow one, where a melancolic theme is exposed by the oboe, and finally the rest of the band. After a fugato section, the energic theme is back to lead to a brilliant coda.

On August 14th 2020, the composer Noah Wada saw the Perseids meteor shower from a hill. He could clearly see many bright stars streaming across the sky, as if they were falling down on the earth. The dazzling sight was enough to inspire him to compose this overture."Starlit Landscape" was commissioned by the Kawagoe High School Band, Kawagoe City, Saitama, Japan and premiered on March 20th, 2023 by the band and Mr. Hiroki Mori, director."Starlit Landscape" is a sparkling overture from the Japanese composer Naoya Wada. It begins with a bold brass fanfare over a bright woodwind passage.

Limbricht, near Sittard, in the late 17th century. Throughout her life, Entgen Luijten is used to going her own way, in family matters, in business and in love. She is supported in this by a great knowledge of nature, which she also regularly uses to help her fellow villagers. But then, because of some unfortunate incidents, she is accused of witchcraft. The lord of the castle is eager for a confession, for which he uses every means made available to him by the Inquisition. But what if Entgen holds out against all odds?

£38.20De Garde - C.J.N. Cori
Cori was a pen-name of the Dutch composer Cornelius Herminus Rijke (1888-1975). He was conductor of several amateur wind bands in Hilversum and Muiden. Cori wrote over 40 marches, 27 of which have been published by Molenaar Edition. The very first 'Avanti' was released in 1948, another, entitled 'Imperial', was published under the pen-name Charl. H.Ride . Other popular marches by Cori are 'Concordia', 'De Opmars', 'Entre du Dfil' and, above all, 'De Garde'(The Guard), a stirring parade march published in 1949.

Kelly wrote this march for the 1948 Kneller Hall March Contest. With the 4/7th Dragoon Guards Kelly took part into the landing in Normandy on D Day, june the 6th 1944; actually he was injured himself at the end of july. 'ARROMANCHES' is a suiting tribute to the heroes of the Allied landings at Arromanches.
