Following that success he became a popular and successful part of the Paris music scene. In 1878, he was appointed professor of advanced composition at the conservatory, and it was while he held this position that he composed his Parade Militaire for orchestra. This lively tune is full of life, energy and subtleties, with great style and elegance, and some sudden dynamic surprises.
