Moment Musical Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

While composing this beautiful chorale, Hayato Hirose was inspired by the fond memory of the pre-marital days he spent with his beloved wife, Minako. The chorale starts with gorgeous woodwinds, after which the brass section is gradually added to enhance the atmosphere. The main theme is repeated and developed in several different keys in the middle section, followed by the recapitulation and the romantic coda that concludes the work. Moment Musical gives any concert programme a touch of warmth and tenderness. 0:03:34

    Symphonic Celebration and Dance

A composition student of the late J. Clifton Williams, Robert Foster composed this work for symphonic band as a tribute to Mr. Williams. The work begins with a statement of the primary theme as a fanfare. The theme recurs later in the work in the form of a chorale, and returns even later in the energetic and rhythmic dance section. A recapitulation of the chorale follows, and the work concludes with a brilliant fanfare. This is a unique musical work and an ideal contest selection.

The Winds Of Power - Nigel Hess

Unlike Nigel Hess's other works for wind band, The Winds of Power is not a programmatic work. After a dark and menacing opening a solo trumpet introduces a theme which will eventually become the centre of a piece and is soon heard tutti in a lyrical form. This is interrupted by a return to the opening mood, with only a brief respite in the form of a chorale for clarinet choir and harp. The theme tries to return once more in a rousing, somewhat cinematic version, but again the sense of foreboding overtakes it. An unsettling march-like section follows before the theme returns in its most lyrical and gentle guise, introduced by solos in the woodwind section. Eventually, a maestoso statement which erupts into a presto coda, ends the journey in a triumphant, more optimistic blaze of sound.

The Building Of The House - Benjamin Britten

A lively and rousing concert opener written for the opening concert of the celebrated Snape Maltings concert hall arranged here for wind band by Thad Marciniak. Performable with or without chorus, Britten makes dramatic use of a chorale tune most often associated with Bach, but here given a new lease of life with telling effect.

Suite - A Renaissance Christmas (Wind Band) Kevin Norbury

VIEW SCORE PDF This magnificent festive suite was written by Kevin Norbury for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School Wind Symphony and features three well known carols set in a Renaissance style. Three contrasting movements comprise the work: i. Processional (Personent hodie - On this day earth shall ring) This is a short piece imagining a torchlight Yuletide procession (perhaps bearing the traditional roasted wild boar), using a well-known Christmas melody from the large collection of music compiled in the 16th century called Piae Cantiones (1582). The tune is presented twice with accompanying, related melodic material. ii. Pastorale (Quem pastores laudavere - Shepherds sang their praises o'er him) This is a 14th-century melody which was originally collected by Michael Praetorius at the end of the 16th-century. The treatment throughout is very lyrical without overly complex harmonies. The melody is heard three times with brief linking episodes and a short coda. iii. Celebration! (In dulci jubilo - In sweet celebration - Ding-dong merrily on high) This magnificent 13th-century melody was also a part of Michael Praetorius's collection. It is traditionally associated with the words 'Good Christian men, rejoice!' The opening is a straight transcription of the great chorale prelude for organ by J.S. Bach. After the grandeur of the opening, the tune is heard in more of a 'folky' style. A lot of related melodic material is then presented before the tune Ding-dong merrily on high is heard. After another episode of previously used music In dulci jubilo reappears in a joyful conclusion to the piece. Variations on Was Lebet - Wind Band (Andrew Wainwright)

A magnificent major work based on the German chorale 'Was Lebet' (O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness). The piece is made up of five contrasting variations. A majestic, fanfare-like section opens the work, leading into a giocoso classical-style variation. The beautiful Variation 2 is reflective and plaintive, while the next variation is somewhat quirky and volatile in nature. There is a French romantic feel to Variation 4, with a playful waltz providing scope for various soloists around the band to display their musicianship. Variation 5 is fugal in nature, with each section of the band being handed the theme at various points. The sense of motion builds gradually to a grandiose presentation of the theme, the first time that it is heard in its full form, bringing the work to a thrilling, majestic conclusion. *Please note audio and video are of the brass band version. Roscommon Way

This regal fanfare captures the elegant dignity of the traditional British Regal march. A stately fanfare is contrasted against a broad, legato melody that leads to a chorale before returning to the original theme. A grand and majestic selection for concert or contest!
