Outpost - Ky Hascall
A musical tale of a lone watchman, vigilant at his outpost by the desolate sea. His quiet thoughts of home and loved ones are soon displaced by the sudden appearance a fleet of invaders. The tempo increases as the ships draw near and he sounds the alarm; soon the battle is on! Aggressive music reflects the fierce conflict as both sides push back and forth before the battle turns in favor of the village guard. As the invaders sail back into the night, the watchman returns to his post and the quiet sounds of the waves, his thoughts of home returning as he sets his gaze on the horizon once again.

Of Heroes And Demons - Rob Romeyn
An epic programmatic work that captures the fight between good and evil. The work opens with a heroic fanfare that commands attention. From here the music subsides into a beautifully lyric chorale section. Our musical story begins to unfold as the "demons" theme is introduced. The theme is developed and expanded, creating a feeling of unresolved conflict, ultimately leading to a thunderous conclusion. From here, the heroic theme returns, stronger and more developed this time as our battle between good and evil comes to its conclusion, but not before a brief final battle creating a dramatic end to the piece that will have your audiences on their feet. Destined to be a classic for concert and festival use, cross cueing is used to insure success in most performance settings. Don't miss this exceptional addition to the concert band repertoire.

Scramble - Nigel Hess
Commissioned in 1994 by the Royal Air Force, 'Scramble!' is a concert overture for symphonic wind band inspired by images of the RAF's airfields during the Battle of Britain, immortalised for ever in such films as 'Reach for theSky'. The pastoral opening depicts the lull before the storm: the young pilots sitting in wicker chairs outside their barracks on a sunlit morning. The peace is, of course, deceptive, suddenly amid siren sounds, there is a shoutof 'Scramble!', and a rush to the waiting planes. In no time at all the squadron is airborne, heading for a skirmish over the English Channel and beyond. A lyrical central section featuring a solo cornet depicts the stillnessmanypilots described as they flew to engage the enemy, before the battle breaks out once more. For those who returned, it would be only a short while before, once again, they would hear the familiar shout of 'Scramble!'

Gettysburg - Brian Balmages
Using many effects to recreate the events at the Battle of Gettysburg, this piece is perfect for discussing historical perspective (included in the notes). A slow, mysterious opening leads into a depiction of the battle. A short, aleatoric section simulates a huge cannon bombardment with drums and whistling. A great way to utilize percussion while providing many opportunities for the rest of the band as well. Consider this strongly for your programming needs.

Journey in the Dark (from Symphony No.1: The Lord of the Rings) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan
Revised 2023 editionJohan de Meij's first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements, each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. The fourth movement describes the laborious journey of the Fellowship of the Ring, headed by the wizard Gandalf, through the dark tunnels of the Mines of Moria. The slow walking cadenza and the fear are clearly audible in the monotonous rhythm of the low brass, piano and percussion. After a wild pursuit by hostile creatures, the Orks, Gandalf is engaged in battle witha horrible monster, the Balrog, and crashes from the subterranean bridge of Khazad-D m in a fathomless abyss. To the melancholy tones of a Marcia funebre, the bewildered Companions trudge on, looking for the only way out of the Mines, the East Gate of Moria.Duration: 9.00
