Ugo Papurello, president of the ''I Filarmonici'' band from San Carlo Canavese (Turin), commissioned this piece to celebrate the group's twentieth anniversary. The opening fanfare is an eloquent and fitting introduction to a solemn celebration. It is followed by the allegro, which has a modal feel and is characterised by a succession of rhythms representing the liveliness ad enthusiasm that have always characterised this band. The andante symbolises a moment of reflection and nostalgic reminiscence. The allegro is repeated as an expression of the hope that the band will continue to set itself increasingly ambitious goals. The fanfare brings back the joyous atmosphere of this special occasion and sets a formal seal on the band's twentieth anniversary.

The concept of transporting oneself back in time through memory has long been the subject of debate and curiosity. A popular song or striking melody can be a key to unlocking distant memories, and for a brief instant create a circle in time. The evocative music of this work appears at times in melodic swirls that seem to float in from the distance as memories sometimes occur. Light but persistent percussion creates a subtle yet unyielding background for wind lines that seem to travel through passageways of sounds as though traveling through time itself.

When he realizes that she is pregnant he has to go back home in the States where his wife is waiting for him. In order to allow the father to educate the child, the young woman commits suicide. With his usual orchestration skill, Johan de Meij made a fine sympho-nic portrait, containing some of the most beautiful songs of the musical.
