The Great Land Run - Anderson, Jackson

An exciting journey through the old west, "The Great Land Run" paints an exhilarating picture of 1889 Oklahoma. A fanfare-like main theme at the beginning is followed by the night around the campfire. As the settlers rest, a gentle storm washes over them bringing forth the questions of what tomorrow may bring. As morning rises, they head back on their way to stake their plot of land and new life. A powerful recap of the main theme drives this piece to an exciting end. With multiple opportunities for solos in the flute, clarinet, oboe, and trumpet, this piece will offer a fun, yet challenging experience for any concert band! Highly recommended!

    The Catskills - Nigel Hess

In upstate New York lie the Catskills Mountains - an extraordinary combination of tranquillity and power, peace and majesty. Once seen, they call you back again and again. The Catskills forms the second movement of East Coast Pictures, commissioned by the British Youth Wind Orchestra with funds from the National Westminster Bank plc. It is a suite of three short 'pictures' that were inspired by several visits to a small part of the American East Coast, an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people.

A Coventry Rhapsody (Symphonic Wind Band) Karl Whelan

VIEW SCORE PDF A Coventry Rhapsody is based on The Coventry Carol, which dates back to the 16th century and is one of three songs from a nativity play entitled Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors which was traditionally performed in Coventry. The carol itself depicts the Massacre of the Innocents in the nativity narrative from the Gospel of Matthew, in which King Herod, orders the execution of all baby boys under the age of two in the vicinity of Bethlehem. Snippets of the carol can be heard throughout the work in different guises. It is not until the final section that we hear the carol in all its glory. Early One Morning - Steven Rosenhaus

Although the roots of this British folksong date back to the 18th century, the first publication of the melody was in the late 1850's in the collection "National English Airs". Early One Morning is the story of a young woman misused by her lover, as overheard by the singer. In the mid-1930's the tune was adapted as a military slow march called "The Globe and Laurel" for the Royal Marines band. This arrangement focuses on the lyricism of the original with just a hint of its later military associations. Only the 1st clarinets cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is F.

The Cherry Tree (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Beck, Brian

The Cherry Tree is a beautiful and lyrical folk song dating back as early as the 15th century in the English Midlands. This setting, by composer Brian Beck, captures the beauty and simplicity of the original ballad while encouraging musical expression and smooth phrasing. Duration: 3.30

The First Shoot (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul

The First Shoot was written and first performed in 1935 for the ballet Follow the Sun. The original music was lost, but reconstructed for brass band, and later for orchestra by Christopher Palmer. This Concert Band arrangement is based on that orchestra score. It is a charming look back (one can imagine the music that might have accompanied a Charlie Chaplin movie!) Concert bands will experience a worthwhile challenge in bringing this wonderfully tuneful music to their audiences, as well as the broadening of their own musical experience.
