Glitter and glamour, good-looking people, a lot of Bling Bling and fast cars - images like these will cross our minds when we think of the movie world. However, reality proves to be different : as a rule, a tremendous amount of work will have been done on the set before a film is ready to be shown on the big screen. A visit to an actual movie set inspired John Emerson Blackstone to write a composition bearing the same name. He had both seen a number of characteristic attributes and heard the typical phrases used in film making, and he incorporated them into 'On the Movie Set' . In the first part, 'The Clapboard', a 'director's assistant' is supposed to shout "Quiet on the set'" and "Action!", as is done before a real scene is shot. Subsequently, in order to create the right atmosphere, the clacking of a 'Clapboard' should be heard. During a romantic scene we should be transported to another world by means of sweet sounds in the background, so romantic music is of course heard in the next part, 'Love Scene'. At the end of a long working day 'It's a wrap' is called on the set to inform everyone that the filming on that day is completed. Now there is only one more thing left to dream of : an Oscar..... Perf. Note: The use of the right props will add to the performance and appreciation of 'On the Movie Set'. A red carpet and a glamorous reception should give your audience the feeling they are attending a real 'opening night'! 09:30

This work was commissioned by the "?sterreichische Blasmusikjugend" (Austrian Brass Band Association - Young Musicians).The Aboriginal indigenous people of Australia are among the oldest surviving human cultures. The arrival of the Europeans marked their decline and endangered their existence. The many secrets the Aborigines hold served as inspiration for this work. Aboriginal SpiritOver many centuries, the Aboriginal people have cultivated a unique ability to live in harmony with the world around them. Maintaining the deli?cate balance between their trinity - nature, man, and creation - is an important factor for bliss and happiness.Primeval Sound and Dreamtime The tens of thousands-year-old stories from the era called Dreamtime - the Aborigines' creation myth - play an important role in not only their be?liefs, but their everyday lives and laws as well. Ancestral worship and various other rituals and ceremonies are still held in high regard to this very day.Running HunterThe Aborigines are extremely skilful hunters and are able to run for extended periods of time when chasing their prey. Hunting weapons, such as the boomerang, exemplify their abilities.Uluru (Red Rock)Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a natural sandstone "inselberg" rising 348m above Australia's plains, and is one of the country's most recognisable icons. Uluru is also a sacred place for the local Aborigines. Its history stretches back to Dreamtime, although it did not exist in its current state at that time.Encounter with the White MenUnfortunately, the "White Men" did not realize the significance and importance of the Aborigines and their culture until the end of the 20th century. Before then, they were unaware that the Aborigines were quite possibly one of the oldest known cultures on earth, with a seamless history stretching back to creation itself; Dreamtime. BushfireFire has been present on the Australian continent for millions of years. Many of the indigenous flora and fauna have needed to adapt to fire, and evolution has led to unique solutions for survival. £174.99The Graces of Love - Oliver Waespi
"The Graces of Love" (Le Gratie d'Amore) is the title of a book published in 1602 by Cesare Negri, the famous dance master of the Milanese court in the Renaissance. It contains numerous dance tunes and precise descriptions of courtly dances. It also includes the tune 'Il bianco fior' (The White Flower) on which the first movement of Oliver Waespi's piece is based. A vigorous dance in three-four, it leads to an acceleration and a sudden shift to an even meter towards the end. The second movement, calm and contemplative in character, features the tune 'Vaghe bellezze ...' (Veiled Beauty ...). Widely spaced melodic parts surround two solos during which the tune is varied anddeveloped. Finally, the third movement contains a Saltarello based on a tune by Vincenzo Galilei, the father of the famous astronomer, Galileo Galilei. It brings the work to a close with a hypnotic rhythm which is noble and virtuosic at the same time.

£392.50Prillar&Halling - for Solo Clarinet and Wind Band - Stig Nordhagen
Prillar has it's origin from Norwegian folklorist music. It's a way of calling and singing the cattle home from the fields. Halling is a wellknown folk dance from the valleys in the eastern part of Norway. In this work, the clarinet use the prillar to get the other musicians to join in. The melodic material in Prillar and Halling hasn't got all the sound of Norwegian folklore exclusively. You can also hear folkloric music from other nations. The idea is to show the similarities between these and also the small differences there are between folkloristic elements from a large area. The piece also contains the folk tune "Adam in paradise", from south of Norway. At the end, thetunes are stacked on top of each other, and the similarities of origin turns out. - Stig Nordhagen -

In A Chinese Temple-Garden - Albert Ketèlbey
A few flavoursome introductory bars carry the listener off to a temple garden in Manchuria in North-eastern China. Mysterious incantations of the priests in the temple and the scent of incense set the scene, while the melody tells of two lovers. A Manchurian wedding procession passes by outside. In the street the coolies are becoming restless. Within the temple, all is calm. Again we hear the incantations of the priest before the lovers' theme is heard in birdsong, with short quotes from the temple theme and coolie theme to end the piece.Vocal score available separately: 1883-12-050 MS

The Eagle's Quest was commissioned by Brevik Musikkorps (Norway) to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Cort Adeler, a renowned Norwegian-Dutch sailor who was born in the town of Brevik in 1622. His Dutch name Adelaer means eagle. This work celebrates his life but is not programmatic, simply reflecting Brevik's pride in one of its most famous sons. Towards the end of the piece there is a brief quotation from the town song, Brevikssangen, which is a fitting and captivating conclusion.Duration: 6.45

To mark its centenary, the Musikgesellschaft Hinterkappelen-Wohlen decided to commission a light-hearted work comprising different styles brought together in one setting. With this in mind, Marc Jeanbourquin composed a piece with a theme based on a short 5 note ascending motif. He developed this theme in various styles: funk, ballad, Celtic and, finally, rock. Everything comes together at the end of the piece with this magical ascending motif. Will the musicians conjure and retain a magical spirit full of energy and vitality through playing Magic Feeling? Rotterdam 1945 was written at the request of Maestro Arjan Tien, the chief conductor of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, to commemorate their 75th anniversary in 2020. 1945 also marked the end of World War II, the year that my home country Holland was liberated from Nazi Germany. My father was born in Rotterdam in 1910, so I have a special bond with this dynamic city. I have used the numbers 1-9-4-5 to create the main theme and translated it into a four-note motif: C - D'- F - G. - Johan de Meij. Duration: 7.30
