Serenata (Euphonium Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

While composing Serenata, Jan Van der Roost didn't focus too much on virtuosity, acrobatics or spectacle. Instead, he wanted to let the solo instrument shine as a melodic and expressive voice. And indeed: the warm sound of the euphonium touches the heart of the audience straight away in the first section with a melodious theme. Then follows a rigaudon, a noble and elegant dance from the Renaissance era. Despite the fact that some of the variations on the main theme require some technique and agility, the overall character mostly remains songful. The composition as a whole builds further on these two musical ingredients, but thanks to a clever alternation of melodic and technical passages, it offers a nice stylistic diversity to the listeners. The band is definitely not 'just accompanying' but fully participates and begins a dialogue with the soloist: both musical partners have their say. The end is more spectacular and sonorous, giving an extra boost of energy to the soloist as well as the band in a grand finale!Duration: 12.00

When Nature Strikes Back (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.

Ice ages, warm periods, impacts by asteroids - the climate on our planet has always been in a state flux. The difference to the past is that since the industrial revolution, the changes are now also increasingly caused by human activity. The release of greenhouse gases in particular promotes the warming of the atmosphere and the oceans. Some experts even predict an increase of up to 4.8 degrees by the end of the 21st century. The result of such a development, apart from environmental catastrophes that are difficult to predict, would be a gigantic migration of populations. CO2 emissions must be reduced: it is five minutes to twelve. The harbingers of disaster have already reached us.Duration: 8.00

Sixty-Six (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert

Embark on this musical road trip along the legendary Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, including references to the music of its heyday in the 1940s, the quirky attractions, neon signs, and the towns that have since faded following the end of the fabled highway's era. From the opening symphonic fanfare to inspiring jazz and everything in between, Sixty-Six, by Robert Sheldon, plays surprisingly well and is guaranteed to bring down the house!Duration: 8.30

Range Rover by Patrick Roszell was written for students at the end of their first year in band, Range Rover uses intervals of a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 4th to move students up or down the scale. A fun way to reinforce air support and slurs in the brass section. Duration: 2.00

Lux Aeterna (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.

Otto M. Schwarz was asked by a friend to compose a chorale for the funeral of his child. Lux Aeterna (The Eternal Light) is actually part of the requiem mass, but in this composition, there is no reference to the original Latin text. People who recount near-death experiences often report a bright light. The music moves back and forth between passages that are sad, optimistic, and imploring in nature, posing questions that cannot be answered. The end of the piece comes, however, with a conciliatory major chord that reflects the calm and warmth of this light that promises redemption.Duration: 3.45

Cowbell Lullaby (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fenske, Katheryn

Moos...cowbells...yodels...alphorns... "Cowbell Lullaby" is an imaginative piece which transports you to Switzerland, joining cows at the end of their day's journey high in the Alps. The herd comes to life in the opening measures, lowing with excitement until the cows are calmed by a delicate lullaby. Dance music of the town band momentarily stirs them before the lullaby once again calls them to bed. Your developing players, and the audience as well, will "udderly" enjoy hanging out with the dairy farmer and his Alpine herd. Mooooo! Duration: 4.15

Golden Lullaby (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

This lyrical little piece started life as a song on the subject of gold but I wanted to see if it would stand alone as an instrumental piece. The gentle lilt of the melody suggests a lullaby although the texture of the piece builds in an un-lullaby-like fashion towards the end. There is a little 'white-note' dissonance but it is basically traditional in its language. Duration: 3.40

Spring's Awakening (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bell, Jeremy

Flowers bloom and the world stirs with life renewed in "Spring's Awakening!" The music begins with a driving ostinato in the clarinets, and staggered entrances that portray flowers opening for the first time. After the entire ensemble enters, two different melodic themes are passed throughout the ensemble, layered over driving 8th-note rhythms that propel the music forward. "Spring's Awakening" is an engaging and beautiful work that makes a perfect fit for any spring or end of the year concert. Duration: 2.15

The Source (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

At the heart of this piece are several elements that inspired the composer. First of all: nature, infinite and inexhaustible, giving life and power, something bigger than humans can grasp. The composer used the Gregorian hymn 'Veni Creator Spiritus' as a leitmotiv to reflect this idea. A second element was the passing of David Maslanka, a dear friend of the composer, honoured in the work by a few musical 'echoes'. At the end of the work, there is a passage for optional choir in different possible settings. The Source was commissioned by the Banda Giovanlie Regionale ANBIMA FVG, Italy, and is an impressive, stirring and moving piece of music. Duration: 8.00

Trains of Thought (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Shapiro, Alex

Evocative train sounds allow listeners' own trains of thought to wander freely, in this emotionally captivating electroacoustic tone poem. As with other signature Shapiro works like Immersion and Liquid Compass, an expansive palette of shifting textures and density creates striking, unexpected contrasts. A remarkably seamless wash of acoustic and digital sounds offers new meaning to the term "prerecorded track," as the piece picks up steam and arrives at a forceful, abrupt end. To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the score. Duration: 7:15
