Trains of Thought - Alex Shapiro
Evocative train sounds allow listeners' own trains of thought to wander freely, in this emotionally captivating electroacoustic tone poem. As with other signature Shapiro works like Immersion and Liquid Compass, an expansive palette of shifting textures and density creates striking, unexpected contrasts. A remarkably seamless wash of acoustic and digital sounds offers new meaning to the term prerecorded track, as the piece picks up steam and arrives at a forceful, abrupt end. To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the score.

Do Dat Thing - Harry Connick Jr.
Harry Connick Jr. is an American pianist, singer, composer and actor from New Orleans. He has released many albums and perform frequently with his own big band. "Do Dat Thing" is a real "feel-good" song composed in New Orleans style. The tempo must not be too fast. A kind of rough, heavy groove is preferred. When staccato is notated, the 8th notes have to be straight. The notations in the Drums-part is optional. From 35, the rhythm in the bass-line is meant as information for the musician. Be aware of the dynamics from the beginning (not too loud) to give it a "lift" at the end of the piece.

Avalon - Jan van der Roost
The magical world of King Arthur, Merlin and Mordred is the setting for Avalon. Unexpected opening figures portray the sudden entrance into another world. A choral-like melody represents the procession of ghosts headed by the mighty magician Merlin. Suddenly, ostinato figures and bi-tonal motifs indicate the attempt of Mordred and his horde to disturb the peace and quiet in the otherwise calm Avalon. Following a powerful statement of King Arthur, we hear a glissando referring back to the opening bars, and... we are back in the normal world. The journey through the underworld has come to an end and the dream is over.

Railroad Ramble - Peter Kleine Schaars
This composition was commissioned by the Concert Band of the NS (the Dutch railroad company) and is intended as an opening piece, bringing the band and the audience on track for an exciting concert! The ascending chords over theostinato bass of the introduction represent the energetic pulling away of the train. The main theme in 10/8 time makes one drift away in the rhythm of full speed. The clownish middle section reflects the seemingly disorderlyactivity in a station hall during rush hour. This is followed by a reprise of the main theme and the introduction, which brings this fascinating musical rail journey to an end.

Homage - Jan Van der Roost
In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan's twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band, "Soli Deo Gloria" (Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion, the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated, a suitable source of inspiration was sought for. After some thought the chorale-theme from Camille Saint-Sans organ symphony was chosen, a piece with which Jan de Haan has a special bond.Apart from this chorale, Homage is also based on the names of notes taken from 'Jan de Haan' and 'Soli Deo Gloria', resulting in the tonerow: DEGAH. Both elements are combined together and form a grand climax towards the end of the piece when the whole band unites in the Saint Sans' theme.

Wolfgang Wssner chose four diverse songs from Grnemeyer's extensive repertoire (Mnner, Mensch, Flugzeuge im Bauch and Mambo), creating a medley that remains exciting to the very end.

Scenes From An English Landscape (Concert Band - Score Only) - Gorb, Adam
Scenes from an English Landscape is a brief nostalgic tone poem taking its inspiration from visions of rural England as depicted in the paintings of John Constable, the novels of Thomas Hard, and the music of Holst, Gustav and Ralph Vaughan Williams. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. At the end of the work, both versions of the theme are stated together to bring the piece to a triumphant climax.
