£90.00Euphonium Music - Brian Bowen
Something of a classic in its brass band and piano versions! We are delighted, at last, to make this work available ith wind band accompaniment by the composer. Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the composer - 'The Eyes of God' - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. Movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Now available in versions for piano, brass band, wind band, and orchestra, Euphonium Music can be seen as a major contribution to the literature for the instrument. £284.00A Child's Garden of Dreams
David Maslanka's A Child's Garden of Dreams for Wind Ensemble, written in 1981, takes inspiration from the writings of Carl Jung, specifically the dreams recounted in Man And His Symbols. Five of the twelve dreams recounted by Jung serve as motifs and titles for the five movements of this composition: 1. There is a desert on the moon where the dreamer sinks so deeply in to the ground that she reaches hell; 2. A drunken woman falls into the water and comes out renewed and sober; 3. A horde of small animals frightens the dreamer. The animals increase to a tremendous size, and one of them devours the little girl; 4. A drop of water is seen as it appears when looked at through a microscope. The girl sees that the drop is full of tree branches. This portrays the origin of the world; and 5. An ascent into heaven where pagan dances are being celebrated; and a descent into hell, where angels are doing good deeds. A Child's Garden of Dreams is a pillar of the standard wind ensemble canon, performerd hundreds of times by a variety of professional and collegiate ensembles and recorded on several critically acclaimed albums. Maslanka has also set the work for full orchestra (C672).

Grace Williams (1906 - 1977) from Barry, South Wales, was Wales finest composer. She studied composition at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Vaughan Williams and completed the Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes in 1940. The iconic Fantasia, - her most popular work, which brought her to prominence - is a composition for symphonic orchestra based on traditional Welsh nursery tunes and lullabies.It is a light-hearted musical journey through childhood in eight traditional tunes. The jubilant start to the work is echoed in the finale, with a calmer, but effectively scored middle section.The Fantasia was featured in the 2024 Last Night of the Proms. A strong rhythm dominated throughout Variation VI. If required, the theme may be played separately without the variation.

The current edition of Gabrieli's Aria Della Battaglia was transcribed for the modern orchestra wind section from the Canto Dialoghi Musicali de Diversi Eccelentissimi Autori: Venice 1590. The work is subtitled "per sonare d'instrumenti da fiato" ("to be played by wind instruments") and is one in a long line of such descriptive works dating from the sixteenth century with no instrumental designation whatsoever. The popularity of this genre, however, did not fade with the close of the Renaissance. Rather, a rich development continued into the nineteenth century with Beethoven's Wellington's Victory, the so-called "Battle Symphony," being a latter-day example.

Modern wind music in the style of the great Big Bands was the model for the composition Band Fever by Otto M. Schwarz. It was written on commission of the prestigious South Tyrolese concert band, Symphonic Winds. The piece features two soloists, one saxophone and one flugel. Rhythms like Hip Hop Style and Double Samba support a catchy melody, which is later taken up by the full band, forming the basis for the above-mentioned soloists' improvisations.
