A tuneful and reasonably easy suite, comprising Fanfare, Lullaby and All at Sixes and Sevens. There are some asymmetric rhythmic challenges in the last movement as implied in its title, but otherwise this suite is not particularly difficult and sets out to be attractive throughout. The Fanfare is vibrant and energetic while Lullaby is very lyrical and occasionally punctuated by harmonic piquancy. All at Sixes and Sevens plays games between 3/4 and 6/8 with some sevens thrown in for good measure.Duration: 8.45

The Royal Gunners is a concert prelude based on tunes strongly associated with the Band of the Royal Artillery. It was composed for the band?€s 350th Anniversary celebrations in 2012. It was constructed in a similar way to Grenadiers! using the band?€s own regimental marches as a basis for composition. In this case the marches were the present Royal Artillery Slow March and one of the oldest Royal Artillery Marches - ?€The Trayne of Artillery?€s Grenadiers Quick March?€ (The Train of Artillery).

Shout! was written for Brett Baker to demonstrate a particular musical aspect of his trombone playing. It is a Latin jazz piece subtitled CCC 4 BB - Cha cha cha for Brett Baker - and shows the trombone's ability to act as a declamatory jazz voice, covering much of the range and expressive power of the instrument. In one sense the title also refers to the jazz tradition of a Shout chorus which often appears towards the end of a jazz piece, bringing the players together after they have all taken their improvised solos.Shout! should hopefully be enjoyable to listen to and, although not without its technical challenges, fun to play.Duration: 3.45

An arrangement of the famous violin solo for solo clarinet and band, Scenes de la Csarda No.4 Opus 32 by the Hungarian composer and violinist Jeno Hubay is much better known by its subtitle Hejre Kati (loosely translated as ?€Pretty Katie?€). Feu de Joie (Fire of Joy) is a musical depiction of the rifle salute of the same name ?€" in this case sequences of notes fired into the air in rapid succession. This is quite an adventurous work, different from much of Wiffin's music but a development of a strand that can be traced from Gipsy Dance and Pagan Ritual. It goes further than either of those in terms of musical language but is not atonal though some sections have a high level of dissonance. Duration: 5.45
