Scottish Dances is based on three Scottish traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond and Marie's Wedding. I. Cock of the North's name is used for multiple things or events. For example for a locomotive to a famous, it seems, delicious liqueur, and rallies to snowboard competitions. Furthermore is "Cock O' the North " a nickname of a famous Duke. (The 4th Duke of Gordon). In this composition Cock of the North (a Jig) is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune, regularly played on tattoos by Pipe Bands. Not infrequently the drummers sing the text. Auntie Mary, had a canary, Up the leg of her trousers While she was sleeping Iwas peeping Up the leg of her trousers. II. " The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond " is about a sad story that took place during an revolt against the British. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie had to retreat. Two of his men were captured. One was convicted and executed, while the other was released. The spirit of the executed soldier would arrive in Scotland via the 'low road' (underworld) before his companion, who had still a long way to go. You'll take the high road And I'll take the low road And I'll be in Scotland afore ye But me and my true love will never meet again On the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond III. In a Scottish wedding, after the official ceremonies, there is often danced. This is called a ceilidh. For this we use traditional Scottish music such as "Marie's Wedding '. Mid dance we go back to the church, where a lovely song in honor of the couple sounds. Marie's Wedding has been recorded by Van Morrison (among many others). Undercurrents provides an electrifying, virtuosic showcase for the whole ensemble - featuring a series of solos, duets and trios, as well as highlighting the various chamber sections within the band. The music was inspired by watching schools of fish and flocks of birds perpetually moving with the ocean currents and air currents. Every once in a while a single solo shape will appear - or two or three - they dance apart for a moment and then are drawn back into the ensemble. £126.50Slava! - Wind Band - Leonard Bernstein
The first theme of Slava! is a vaudevillian razz-ma-tazz tune filled with side-slipping modulations and sliding trombones. The second theme is a canon, and after a brief development section, the two themes recur in reverse order. Near the end, they are combined with a quotation (proclaimed by the ubiquitous trombones) from the Coronation Scene of Moussorgsky's 'Boris Goudonov', where the chorus sings the Russian word slava!, meaning, glory! In this way, the composer is paying homage to his friend Mistislav Rostropovich, called 'Slava' by his friends and to whom the overture is fondly dedicated. The overture was written to celebrateRostropovich's inauguration as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., in 1977. Leonard Bernstein, the son of a Russian immigrant, was born near Boston, Mass., and studied composition at Harvard. Called 'an authentic American hero, an arts hero,' Bernstein had a distinguished career as composer and conductor. - James Huff

The theme from the Western Midnight Cowboy composed by John Barry is widely known in the version for mouth-organ. In this arrangement for symphonic windband and fanfare orchestra arranger Johan de Meij has chosen for a combined solo for alto-sax and trumpet with an orchestral background. The two soloists play the theme which is emellished by the other. The orchestra mainly finds its task in the accompaniment.

The once extremely popular American group 'The Village People' released its first album 'San Francisco' in 1977. The next year two more albums came, 'Macho Man' and 'YMCA', followed in 1979 by 'Go West'. That same year, the group was to be seen and heard in the film 'Can't stop the music'. Then there was their big hit In the Navy that caused some trouble when the American Army wanted to use it in one of their recruiting advertisements. You'll find that famous tune, and some more of their hits, in a fine arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars.

Chan Chan is a song composed by Cuban bandleader Compay Segundo, revolving around two central characters, Juanita and Chan Chan. The song was one of Compay's last compositions and was written in 1987. Chan Chan had already been recorded by the composer himself various times, but worldwide success came with a version with Compay and other Cuban artists like Eliades Ochoa and Ibrahim Ferrer as the first song on the album Buena Vista Social Club.

Love's Theme is an instrumental piece recorded by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra and was released in 1973 as a single. It is one of the few instrumental and purely orchestral singles to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, which it did in early 1974. Billboard ranked it as the No. 3 song for 1974. The piece was included on two albums: 1973's Under the Influence of... Love Unlimited and 1974's Rhapsody in White by Love Unlimited Orchestra.

£121.00In Memoriam - Johan Halvorsen
Johan Halvorsens In Memoriam, Opus 30 was written for the great Norwegian poet Bjornstjerne Bjornson. The two men became very close friends and Halvorsen composed a funeral march in Bjornsons honor upon his death in 1910. The musics link with Bjornson is underscored by the fact that it opens with a paraphrase of the Norwegian national anthem. At the peak, it suddenly falls away, and following a roll of the timpani, the anthem is played in its entirety. Vocal parts sung by members of the ensemble contribute to the overall effect and make this a most memorable and moving work.

Impetus represents both the character of this work and the state of mind of the Ensemble Musical de Maill, which commissioned it. The Ensemble's two conductors, Victorien Garreau and Grgoire Tapin, asked composer Thierry Deleruyelle to write an original work to mark the 115th anniversary of their orchestra. A brilliant and dynamic introduction, ending with a grand maestoso, is followed by a gentle, restful section with glimpses of solo instruments. The work concludes with a grand finale, taking up the theme from the beginning.

On 22 January 1963, the signing of the lyse Treaty between France and Germany marked the beginning of a solid relationship of cooperation and friendship, embodying the reconciliation of two nations after decades of conflict. Alliance Day celebrates this treaty by using the French and German national anthems as compositional material. Emblems of each nation, they are transformed throughout the work, symbolising the journey towards unity. The piece moves between intense, lyrical moments and playful, melodic ones. The orchestral climax culminates in an explosion of sound before reaching a grandiose finale.
