£84.99A Golden Jubilation - Satoshi Yagisawa
This work was composed as a commission by the Aikodai Meiden High School Symphonic Band, for the 50th anniversary of their annual concert; the title A Golden Jubilation is a reference to this. The close friendship between Hiroki Ito, theconductor of the band, and Satoshi Yagisawa resulted in this brilliant and exhilarating fanfare of approximately two minutes in length; the piece is ideal to use as a concert opener. The original composition was arranged for an extremely wide rangeof instruments and a band of 200 musicians, including a separate 'banda', harp and a variety of special instruments. This new version has been rescored for standard band instrumentation by the composer himself.

Persian Dance N 5 - Amir Molookpour
In these Dances commissioned by Louis Martinus, the Iranian composer uses some of the peculiarities of the Persian traditional and folkloristic music with a mixture of various rhythmic and structural approaches. In fact each dance is written in adifferent traditional Persian scale and there is a very strong tendency towards the creation of the melodies almost in the same way used by the Iranian composers of the traditional music in the past centuries. Furthermore, Molookpour on the one handtries to create these dances with this kind of intention toward the melody structures, and on the other hand, he uses the western musical techniques of composition in a very simple manner to bring these two cultural diversities more close.

£202.99Missa Tornacum - AndrĂ© Waignein
Flicien Doyen, the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ, gave a memorable performance of thepiece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo, the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Ite missa est. En the first two parts, adialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle ("Sanctus" - "Hosanna" - "Benedictus"), which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colorscharacterizing each of its three parts. The fourth part,Agnus Dei, takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations, which develop into a majestic and cheerful passagemarking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.

£79.00Poem for Flute and Concert Band - Charles Tomlinson Griffes
Poem, originally for flute and piano, composed by Charles Tomlinson Griffes (1884 - 1920). This wind ensemble arrangement is designed to make this composition playable by most high school clarinetists and instrumentalists. Please note that the B-flat instruments are written with a key signature of 3 flats, not one of six sharps. This was done to keep the clarinets playing in a familiar key with ample accidentals to ease the reading of the parts. The bass clarinets and the bassoons play identical parts and can be substituted or augmented as desired. Though a minimum of two double bassists is ideal, an alternate part for tuba is also provided (also divisi).

The Music Lesson - Robert W. Smith
Inspired by the command and structure of two Henri Matisse paintings under the name "The Music Lesson", this powerful work for alto saxophone and band will become a staple of the repertoire. From the strict structure of the opening piano statement to the classically influenced melodic interplay with the saxophone, the piece moves through a flowing musical environment highlighted by a virtuosic cadenza. The recapitulation of the initial melodic line completes our music lesson and provides a strong conclusion to "Three Conversations With Matisse", a suite for alto saxophone and band.

£141.99Jalan-Jalan - Shin'ya Takahashi
Jalan-jalan was inspired by the music of Bali, Indonesia based upon its unique melodies, modes and rhythms. As part of the independent archipelago "Ryukyu", Okinawa (southernmost Japan) had an active exchange with Bali that included cultural and musical influences. Jalan-jalan means "walkabout" or "walking journey" in Indonesian. It describes a walk in the so-called Isle of the Gods, encountering Bali's beautiful scenery and daily life. Its four themes include "Dawn," "Morning Market," "Beach in Early Afternoon" and "Kecak Dance (a form of Balinese dance and music drama, performed primarily by men) in Torchlight."An imposing pesante introduction will properly establish this song's mood. Boldly balance winds and percussion to the prominent timpani solo. At Allegro Vivo, observe the lighter abbreviated scoring and balance melody/countermelody at E. Melodies are elongated at the Grazioso, and tenor/bass rhythm figures need enough separation to be felt. The urgent-feeling Presto must initially be reserved except for the percussive "slaps"; same thing again at O. The daunting rhythmic figure at Q is actually a chattering effect-combine the two elements to teach continuity and placement. Don't "over blow" the ending, but continue to emphasize unique rhythmic elements.(Shin'ya Takahashi)

Appomattox - James L. Hosay
General Lee and General Grant are represented by their own themes in this expressive tone poem for band. The story of the Appomattox Courthouse meeting between the two military greats is one of extraordinary human drama, and Curnow effectively illustrates the heartbreaking trial and, finally, dignity experience by all involved. Field drum percussion and straight-muted trumpets and trombones give this an authentic historical sound.

£60.99The Best of Rooms - Randall Thompson
This arrangement of Randall Thompson's unaccompanied choral piece, The Best of Rooms, was transcribed by Barbara Lambrecht. As a student, Barbara fell in love with Thompson's music after hearing the Texas All State Choir sing his Testament of Freedom. Years later, as a school band director, she joined her church choir and "discovered" The Best of Rooms. Charmed not only by the music but also the text, she arranged this gem for wind band so that a new generation of musicians, in this case instrumentalists, could experience the genius of Randall Thompson. Two wind band versions are available: Version A opens with clarinet choir and oboe solo, while Version B opens with horn quartet. Whether for choir (Catalog No. 2672) or band, the music is lush, warm, lyrical, and mystical. Duration: 4:00
