At Ease!
Personal stories from two generations of servicemen led to this charming and unique trumpet trio. Written in honor of the composer's grandfather, this setting represents the atmosphere in the barracks "after hours" when the soldiers aren't quite as gung-ho as usual. Unfortunately, inspections can happen without warning, and the troops quickly assemble, clean up their bunks, and display their staunch military discipline... until the officer leaves, and life can return to normal. Green Hills Fantasy (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
This composition describes a landscape in the Upper Austrian region of M?hlviertel. This area was once besieged by the Celts, who spread fear and terror among the inhabitants, however the people opposed the enemy with patience and courage. Their uncompromising love of life demonstrated how unyielding they were and finally, the Celts had to withdraw from M?hlviertel. The region is still one of the most beautiful landscapes in Austria, and the people who live there are proof that tradition and progress are not necessarily contradictory. Green Hills Fantasy gives you a chance to hear this fantastic landscape immortalized in a wonderful piece for Concert Band. 08:12

Windrider
"Windrider" is a celebration of life in the notorious wind found on the high plains of North America. An ever-evolving melody accompanied by evocative motivic elements and textures consistently suggest the wind. A rhythmically driving beginning is followed by a soaring lyric melody that is elaborated by thick chords that are masterfully scored. This lyric portion has elements of modern notation that keep the listener engaged and serve the music perfectly. All elements are drawn together into an explosive conclusion that unite the memorable melodies, lush harmonies and energetic rhythms showcasing all sections of the band. "Windrider" captures the imagination, catches the strong currents, and soars with them.

David Maslanka's Traveler, for Symphonic Wind ensemble, was commissioned in 2003 by the University of Texas at Arlington Band Alumni Association, the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, in honor of the career contributions of Ray C. Lichtenwalter, retiring Director of bands at UT Arlington. Maslanka writes, "Ray has been a close friend and champion of my music for many years, and it was a great pleasure for me to write this piece for his final concert. The idea for Traveler came from the feeling of a big life movement as I contemplated my friend's retirement." Carl Fischer Music is excited to offer this beautifully contemplative piece in a study score format.

A Land Remembered is based on the novel of the same name by Patrick D. Smith, which tells the story of pioneering families in the early days of Florida. The piece is set in three continuous movements, each depicting elements of the story, from the open fanfare, "A New Life in a New Land" to the beautiful "On the Prairie" and the strident final movement, "Hardships on the Rugged Frontier." A depiction of a cold, snowbound winter scene. This work was written shortly after the composer I finished a little piece called Summer Song. Winter Scene originally started life as a guitar piece but was expanded in several ways when casting it for wind band. Without looking for specific imagery, the composer imagined something like the snowbound scenes found in the Renaissance art of Pieter Breugel the Elder d. 1569. The music begins with some icy dissonance in the brass before the slow processional of the tune is first stated. There is some contrasting material in the middle which changes colour and key before the main theme returns with its slightly acerbic accompaniment.Duration: 3.30
