This composition describes a landscape in the Upper Austrian region of M?hlviertel. This area was once besieged by the Celts, who spread fear and terror among the inhabitants, however the people opposed the enemy with patience and courage. Their uncompromising love of life demonstrated how unyielding they were and finally, the Celts had to withdraw from M?hlviertel. The region is still one of the most beautiful landscapes in Austria, and the people who live there are proof that tradition and progress are not necessarily contradictory. In composing the Sinfonietta No. 3 "Zwlfmalgreien Sketches" , Franco Cesarini was inspired by the municipality of Zwlfmalgreien made up of twelve towns, villages and scattered districts which were incorporated into the city of Bolzano (South Tyrol, Italy), over one hundred years ago. The peculiarity of these places, different from each other, but all characterized by rare beauty have contributed to the creation of this 3-movement piece.The first movement - City Life- illustrates activities, tourists and shopping in some of the villages, followed by Mountain Shadowsa slow movement that describes the mountain hamlets where there is little sun in winter. The third and last movement - Classic Vineyards- is lively, in vivid contrast to the previous one. Lots of sun and warmth of the typical wine regions, with echoes of folk dances and Bacchic festivals coming from far away.

The Vermilion River runs through the heart of my hometown of Lafayette, LA. It was created when the ancient course of the Mississippi River, which originally ran through the area that is now Lafayette, shifted from west to east and left a channel through the plains. While originally home to the Atakapa-Ishak and Canneci (Lipan Apache) Tribes and the competing Choctaw Tribes, between the years 1765 and 1785 the first great wave of immigration occurred in South Louisiana and Acadian exiles settled the area. They created a profitable fur and deerskin trading business along the Vermilion River, and the Old Spanish Trail reached the Vermilion right about where the village of Vermilionville (later Lafayette) was founded. Subsequently, the town grew and flourished on both sides of the Vermilion. The tranquil river and its scenic banks, adorned with live oaks draped in Spanish moss, provided the backdrop for early Cajun life as the river was a source of food, communication, travel and commerce. This piece is a "postcard;" an homage to my culture and to the river that brings me great peace every time I encounter its pastoral beauty and serenity.
