The second of four movements in Robert W. Smith's epic work, Dulcinea tells the tale of Don Quixote's adoration of the ideal woman. Written in a sultry 5/4 tango, the audience will hear the haunting melody and feel the passion of Cervantes' knight-errant as he proclaims his love for Dulcinea de Tobosa. Featuring an English horn solo that is liberally cross-cued throughout, the initial melody gives way to the most powerful of statements before returning to the tango in a quiet, yet startling ending.

In this moderately easy suite, Jan Van der Roost uses four authentic folk tunes from the Swedish-speaking part of Finland. These are from Nagu, Oravais, Lappfjrd and Karlebynejden, and have been joined together without pauses to form a continuous suite. The work begins with noble, almost meditative melodies. Gradually the tempo becomes faster, resulting in a brilliant and cheerful folk dance. The melody regularly goes from one band section to another ensuring that the timbre remains varied and there is no question of monotony. This work is inspired by four paintings by the French painter Georges Seurat, but does not attempt to recreate his pointillist technique in musical terms. The first movement, Parade, contrasts the strange gas-lit world of La Parade de Cirque: Invitation to the Sideshow, which features a sinister-looking trombone player and his ghostly acolytes, with the cool detached stance of that great masterpiece A Bathing Place: Asni?res. The second movement, Can Can, recreates the world of two other paintings: Le Cirque and Le Chahut, which depicts a curiously stylised Can Can in full swing, accompanied by a pit orchestra. The phrase "faire du chahut" means to make a racket!
