This programmatic piece of music is one of the best-selling works from Otto M. Schwarz. There was a very high demand for a lower grade version to enable young and small bands to perform this epic piece. On September 19th, 1991, a mummified corpse of a man was found at the Similaun glacier in the ?tzt?ler Alps. The glacier unveiled an early man after 5300 years, with all of his personal belongings. His clothes and weapons were fairly well preserved and provide us today with a deeper insight into that period. Austrian nature filmmaker Kurt M?ndel reconstructed the life of this man and made a film, which Otto M. Schwarz used as an opportunity to write a work for symphonic wind band and musically resurrect the "Man in the Ice- ?tzi".

Includes: Prelude, Theme and Five VariationsUnlike my other pieces for concert band, Mockbeggar Variations has no roots in any of my work for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but resulted from a commission by Robert Roscoe for the Berkshire Youth Wind Orchestra, with funds provided by the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust. Robert, on learning that I was stuck for a suitable title, and noting my penchant for the unusual, suggested the address of the Trust - Mockbeggar House - might take my fancy.The Prelude hints at the melodic and harmonic material of the Theme, which appears in the thirty-first bar, distributed between various solo instruments and small groups of players. The five succeeding variations are contrasted in mood, tempo, style and instrumentation.A large part of the score was written in a chalet high in the Swiss Alps with a continual clangour of sixteen different pitches of cow bell constantly ringing in my ears. There is no Mahlerian hint of this in the music, nor was my wife, Jane, successful in shooing the cows away or muffling their bells.....! - GW

Movement 3 from SuspendedMasked by Alex Shapiro is composed in the exact shape of a Classical Minuet and Trio waltz, though the music--a whimsical if somewhat demented masked ball (or, balls, in this case)--bears little connection to that of Mozart or Haydn. Historically, third movement Minuets gave way to the joke-like Scherzo, and the Trio section tips its hat to some welcome levity. This is one of four movements in Suspended, a piece is composed in the tradition of an 18th century Classical symphony: four contrasting movements which serve specific functions and reveal a story. The work begins in absolute rage and chaos, then alternates between moments of grief and bleakness. Grim reality shifts to a macabre, circus-like insanity, and by the end, flickers of genuine hope contrast a pervasive sense of dread, and finally arrive at more optimistic possibilities.To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the pre-recorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. This work was commissioned by Marktmusik Timelkam to celebrate its 170th anniversary. It describes the cultural life and hustle and bustle of the band's home base, the Austrian town of Timelkam. Carnival pictures a festive procession starting at the marketplace and lasting well into the night. The work features many carnivalesque elements and is a joy for players to perform. There is a lot of merry activity going on in the music; people cheerily chatting in the inn; singing and dancing together and having fun. There is also room for a melancholy mood, accompanied by reminiscences about eternal goodbyes and searching for love. With the added musical representation of children's playing and pranks, a beautiful sunrise as well as a depiction of the churches and societies in town, this composition is not just an account of a carnival parade but a small portrayal of life.Duration: 11.30

The story of the Heinzellmannchen (Gnomes) is connected to the German city of Cologne. The gnomes were small creatures living underground but appeared during the night, when the people were asleep, doing all the work that had to be done in the city, so that the citizens of Cologne could be lazy, relaxing the whole day. At last, there was a tailor's wife getting so curious about the gnomes that she scattered dried peas onto the floor so that the gnomes slipped and fell, making a lot of noise. The gnomes got infuriated and disappeared forever and the citizens of Cologne must thereafter do all the work themselves.Kurt Noack (1893-1945) was a German composer, arranger and orchestra leader, working mainly with light music and marches. The characteristic piece Heinzellmannchens Wachtparade (Gnome's parade) from 1912 is his most famous composition, originally written for piano.This arrangement is made a little parodic, filled with joyful interjections, trying to give these little gnomes a bit of character, with pictures from Disney's Santa's workshop in mind.Duration: 7.00

This song was originally written for the 1965 TV special "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Charlie Brown is known from the comic strip, "Peanuts". "Christmas Time is Here" has been performed by a multitude of artists since, among them: Al Jarreau, Steve Vai, Take 6 and Kenny Loggins. This arrangements i based on Diana Krall's version from the 2005 Album "Christmas Songs". The arrangement has many chamber-musical passages where a soloist is playing with a small group, please mind the balance and thin out if needed. Also: Do take liberties in tempo and direction of this music to make it flow naturally and not stand still. Duration: 3.15
