It describes the journey of Christ carrying the Cross, and is divided into fourteen stages or 'stations'. The instrumentation is for Solo Cello and Concert Band. Grade 5/6. Phase 2 (Imaginations) - Anxiety begins and nervous doubts increase as thoughts intrude of what might happen if things went wrong: warfare, mechanical failure, uncontrolled fission, explosion, melt-down, firestorms, fallout, burns, contamination, disease, mutation, the desolation of a nuclear winter. Phase 3 (Reality) - Time is ticking on. We accept the benefits of nuclear power, tinged with unease and incomprehension. The piece ends with doubt and uncertainty - only time will tell if we are right or wrong. Program NotesThis piece sets out to capture the spirit and fun of a theatrical stage-dance routine. Many will be familiar with the children's song Jesus Bids Us Shine on which it is based.The piece is very light-hearted in character, and would easily lend itself to the addition of some imaginative choreography that could prove extremely entertaining and amusing on the right occasion!In its original brass band form, the piece was written for The Salvation Army's Melbourne Staff Band when they toured the UK in 2001. It was used to great effect by the band on that trip.

The Spartan Warriors (CB) - Pimpanit Karoonyavanich
The Sparta army is well-known in the time of the ancient Greek that the warriors would never lay down their weapons for any reason. The theme from the beginning of the piece strongly declares that the warriors are always willing to fight for their homeland. The slow movement reflects the feeling of the warriors when they are far away from their loved one due to their duty. The composers intently uses the harmony that gives a hopeful feeling but also painful at the same time. The audience can hear the bell during the piece. It is the symbol of the clock towers which located in every cities. Everytime that the warriors leaves a city, the sound of the bell becomes softer and softer until it disappears. Only at the end of the piece that the bell rings only one last time after the majestical theme. It's the bell of victory!
