The town of Schwenningen at the source of the Neckar inspired Wolfgang Wssner to compose this march song. In the trio he employed Friedrich Silcher's well-known folk song Am Neckar. The march is composed in 6/8 time throughout, with the folk song theme likewise arranged in this meter. The Wayfaring Stranger
Based on the American folk song "Poor Wayfaring Stranger", this work for euphonium and band is a movement from "The American Folk Odyssey", a suite for various soloists and concert band. Beginning with a mysterious and lyrical statement of the haunting melody, the piece quickly transitions to the high seas in homage to the early Americans that journeyed by ship to the American continent. The sea chanty setting provides technically rich and effective environment to feature the euphonium with full band interaction while engaging the audience. Following a virtuosic cadenza, the movement concludes in a powerful musical flurry leaving the soloist, band and audience breathless!

A Finnish Rhapsody - Clare Grundman
The opening measured of Clare Grundman's A Finnish Rhapsody are base on Oi kallis Suomenmaa (O Blessed Fatherland), an old South Bothnian melody beloved of the whole Finnish nation. The words of this song epitomize each Finn'snoblest duty, the readiness to sacrifice all in defense of his country's liberty. Next is an episode based on Kesilta (Summer Evening), one of the loveliest of Finnish folk songs, being as delightfully tranquil as the Finnishcountryside. Following this is a section based on the lively folk tune, Talon Tytt (The Country Lass), a mirthful love song about a peasant maid and her swain. Mountain Dance - Ed Kiefer
Mountain Dance contains three Appalachian folk songs: "Cluck Old Hen," "Sourwood Mountain," and "Poor Polly." It was written to depict the Appalachian region of the country and its heritage of bluegrass music and fine musicianship. This is a tune by Sigrid Moldestad (b. 1972), a Norwegian folk artist. She has based it on a warm and beautiful poem by Danish author Tove Ditlefsen. A text for and about love. Sigrid Moldestad won the "Spellemannsprisen" (the Norwegian equivalent to Grammy) in 2005 as a part of the group Gamaltnymalt. She won the price two years later, this time as solo artist for the record album Taus. Both times in the Folk Music category. So Take My Heart was released in 2012 as a part of the album Himlen har sove bort mrkret.
