This work was composed as a commission by the Aikodai Meiden High School Symphonic Band, for the 50th anniversary of their annual concert; the title A Golden Jubilation is a reference to this. The close friendship between Hiroki Ito, theconductor of the band, and Satoshi Yagisawa resulted in this brilliant and exhilarating fanfare of approximately two minutes in length; the piece is ideal to use as a concert opener. The original composition was arranged for an extremely wide rangeof instruments and a band of 200 musicians, including a separate 'banda', harp and a variety of special instruments. This new version has been rescored for standard band instrumentation by the composer himself.

A Bluegrass Overture was commissioned by Gabriel Wooley and funded by a grant from Leslie and Cathy Anderson for the Central Kentucky Concert Band to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2016.This energetic overture opens with an introduction loosely based on 'bluegrass' chords before a slower, legato chorale appears in the clarinets and flutes. This is short-lived and soon a new mood is introduced, based on a repeated-note accompaniment. This leads to the main theme, heavily syncopated with bluesy inflections.A central section features a cantabile melody, which changes key frequently, before the main theme reappears, leading toa triumphal presentation of the earlier chorale melody.

A commission by the U.S. Air Force Band of the West allowed Ewazen to consider the ten years following the events of 9/11/2001, resulting in A Time of Strife, a Time of Peace. The first movement considers the long wars and the losses entailed through soaring lyrical lines above a rhythmic, pounding accompaniment, as Ewazen puts it. The second movement is a bittersweet celebration on the death of the perpetrator and a future of joy, peace, and life. James Rae is the man who put fun into woodwind and brass teaching. His many compositions, especially in the jazz and blues idioms, have often featured on examination syllabuses. Strong rhythmic playing is required from all sections of the band in order to achieve a solid performance. A Royal PortraitThis piece is very regal in style and portrays all the pomp and circumstance that surrounds a high-profile state occasion. It is to be performed with a full, warm sound and players must resist the temptation to overblow as this could have a detrimental effect on tone quality and intonation. As with Buffalo Rock, the instrumental parts have been written in comfortable keys and ranges with all clarinet parts staying entirely in the low register.

Fanfare for a Celebration is a festive work, suitable for any jubilant occasion. The piece begins with a sense of anticipation that builds to the spirited fanfare. After this, the tempo slows as the mood changes to a more dignified and stately version of the opening motif played in a legato style. This section progresses to a return of the fanfare that brings the piece to a triumphant conclusion. There is also a cut which allows for effective performance in a shortened version.
