The second movement is a bittersweet celebration on the death of the perpetrator and a future of joy, peace, and life. Symphony for the Future was originally a soundtrack written for a multimedia spectacle with film, light and laser effects. The soundtrack, which initially consisted of 4 parts, was played live by a symphonic orchestra and a pop group, in sync with the screening of a film. The assignment was to reflect a message of hope and positive enthusiasm for the future, using music and film as a mixed media. In this arrangement for wind instruments, the 4 parts come together seamlessly. Jan Rypens has succeeded in producing an excellent orchestration of the piece.

'Fanfare for a Friend' was originally composed as an introductory piece for the brass ensemble Musica Mosana and their conductor Mark Prils. The work begins with a brilliant brass fanfare that presents the main theme for the first time. This stately theme can be heard in counterpoints throughout the first 28 bars. This is followed by a contrasting and rapid part whereby a melodic theme can be heard against a more rhythmic accompaniment. A virtuoso and sweeping passage then leads to the grandioso in which both themes are played simultaneously in a grand finale.

There, they worship the newborn King, and offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh: Wij komen van Oosten (We've come from the East').This musical Christmas story ends with a festive repeat of the third movement, the stately chorale.
