Migrations (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Story, Michael

A lovely flute solo sets the stage for this creative new work from the pen of Michael Story. Some innovative harmonies set this composition above the rest. A contemporary yet reflective work, Migrations musically depicts African animals' annual migration through the folk music of Kenya and Tanzania. The folk songs that inspired this work are "Masai Women from Kenya," the gentle "Wagogo Soothing Song" from Tanzania, and the "Wagogo Marriage Ritual." Cross cultural programming at its best! Milestone Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brosse, Dirk

This work was written at the pivotal point of both two centuries and two millennia. With its hopeful melodies and triumphant parts in the brass section, the opening pictures the dawning of a new era of great expectations, characterized by the high speed of communicating all over the world, which is one of the most important aspects of life in the 21st century. This is achieved by musical themes being rapidly transferred from one musician to another. In this vortex of information and fast business transactions, the sense of individuality threatens to become extinct. At this point, Brosse silences the orchestra (a symbol of society) and draws attention to those people who are less fortunate than most of us. This focus on other people culminates with an orchestral climax in which all powers come together with a feeling of euphoria.Duration: 7:45

"The Liberty Bell"'s WWI cousin, in lilting 6/8 march tempo. Complete with unique chromatic chime solos and great parade drum effects. "Liberty Loan" was the name for the US Government bonds sold to aid in the war effort and John Philip Sousa was the government's best salesman. Sousa's recording of this march was one of the top-selling recordings during the First World War.
