The 1958 Welsh Dances of Alun Hoddinott are short, pithy and laced with zest. The second in particular is a charmer, especially zesty, and its scoring is deftly apposite for its purpose, the Arnoldian tinges quite clear. It is also well-suited for Concert Band performance with so much colour that one scarcely misses the strings. This set of dances will be an important addition to the repertoire of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles.

FOUR WINDS, The (EB Marks Concert Band) - Hause, Evan

The Four Winds is an homage by the composer to some of the well-known?band composers, such as Clifton Williams and John Barnes Chance, as well as earlier wind masters like Holst and Mahler. Evan Hause?was a student of William Bolcom, and his more advanced band work, Tango Variations, has been performed and recorded by some of the?top university ensembles.
