Escapades (from Catch Me If You Can) - John Williams

Steven Spielberg's 2002 film 'Catch Me If You Can' was set in the 1960s, and John Williams created a marvelous film score evoking the style of the progressive jazz movement popular during that time. Soloists on Alto Saxophone, Vibraphone and String Bass are featured in this suite of three contrasting movements. "Closing In" relates to the often humorous sleuthing ever present in the story. This is followed by "Reflections" portraying the fragile family relationships, and finally "Joy Ride" representing the main character's wild flights of fantasy. Dur: 13:00.

Escape from Dead Raider's Hollow - Jeremy Bell

Escape from Dead Raider's Hollow is a fast-paced adventure. Opening quietly, the introduction gradually builds in volume and energy up to a tempo change where the piece takes off and doesn't relent until the end. Combining rhythms of 3 over a pulse of 2 creates a hemiola effect that drives the piece forward, creating a feeling of anxiety and being chased. This is a bombastic, action-packed piece with loud percussive hits, huge brass, and soaring woodwinds that ends with a bang. (2:30)

Although a chemical element on the periodic table, Krypton is also a fictional planet in comic book lore that explodes just after the escape by our favorite super hero. Robert W. Smith's "Escape From Krypton" captures the energy and suspense of the dramatic event. Biting dissonance, driving percussion and a soaring flight theme combine to create a musical experience your beginning band students will love to rehearse and perform. Composed using the 8-note range of the Bb concert scale, this exciting piece can be performed in the second semester of study in most band methods. Exciting and educationally sound!
