Fairytale-Suite is an original work for beginning band. The name of the movements are taken from well-known themes from Norwegian fairytales. The music may not tell a story itselv, but it may be a good base for an exciting fairytale on a concert? This piece gives challenging parts to every player and it's a good choice to showcase the entire band. To the conductor: It's several doublings of the voices. This makes it possible to omit certain instruments or parts. The Drum Set part may be split and played by several players.

Ever Forward, Ever Onward - Amy Webb

Ever Forward, Ever Onward is a wonderful piece written in concert B-flat and only uses notes within the scale. The clarinets do not go over the break. If students have been playing for at least a semester, this piece will be just challenging enough to make them want to work, but not so hard that they give up. The lines are interesting, too, no matter what instrument you can play. Students will love to play this and I hope you have fun. 1st trumpet's highest note is A.

Ever so samba - Peter Martin

The rhythm of the samba was originally created in Africa and brought to Brazil by the slaves . Here it became the national dance. For every festive occasion and especially the carnival festivities (Rio de Janeiro) samba music is played. The World's Fair in New York (1939) was the reason to the biggest spread of the samba. The trumpet section gets an opportunity to feature in Ever so Samba. Together with the swinging percussion section they let you enjoy a South American party.

Everest - Jacob de Haan

Everest is the name of a restaurant on the 40th floor of a skyscraper in Chicago. In 2003 the composer Jacob de Haan had dinner there together with his publishers and other fellow composers. The idea of composing a march to honour the excellent cuisine, the magnificent view of the skyline and the pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant arose during the visit. The results can be heard in this delightful and unusual work.

Everest - Rob Romeyn

Mt Everest has attracted the most adventurous of mountain climbers for decades, with many meeting their fate in the attempt to scale the world's highest mountain. The legend of the Yeti has tales of the wild, hairy creatures serving as protectors of Everest and it's villages. The music begins boldly, depicting the majestic sight of this magnificent mountain as our journey begins. The music develops as our journey progresses, telling an eventful and tumultuous tale reaching a stunning climax as the apex of the mountain is reached. From here, the work subsides as the breathtaking vistas unfold in the beautiful, lyric sounds before building to a stunning conclusion of majesty and grandeur. A musical tribute to the tallest mountain on the earth, this brilliant mono-thematic work has striking bell-like effects in the brass and makes superb use of a large percussion section. Contrasts in texture and articulation are numerous and the music is alternately bold, aggressive and haunting. This is another fine selection that can be considered for contest and festival use.
