Since the Treaty of Lisbon came into force at the end of 2009, a lot has happened within the European Union. There were (and are) sceptics as well as ardent supporters. In the meantime, however, something like a 'European identity' has arisen, radiating optimism and vitality. Europe's Glory gives voice to the positive message of solidarity and joined forces.

Lszl Zemplni, the author or reviser of a large number of pedagogical volumes published by EMB, has this time arranged European folk songs for young band. The following songs feature in the volume: "La' doch meine Jugend" (German), "My native land" (Irish), "Ah mon beau chteau" (French), "Kom, skal i klippe" (Norwegian), "Moj llokumja me sheqer" (Albanian), "Ma come balli bella bimba" (Italian) and "Az olhok, az olhok" (Hungarian). The pieces can be performed as a coherent series or separately, and conductors can select from them to form 2-, 3- or 4-movement groups.

With its unique structure, European Overture brings out the vast potential of the concert band. The work opens with a magnificent fanfare followed by a lively allegro section. The lento of the middle section gracefully meanders bringing several soloists into the spotlight. Following another pulsating allegro section the work comes to a close with a final restatement of the central melody. A fantastic opener for any concert.
