In his desperation, he pleads for freedom and presents an offer to the people: gold mines for a year, silver mines for ten years, or iron mines forever. The clear response from the people is iron forever. The composition's finale emphasizes this choice with impactful anvil strikes, and the Erzberg rises triumphantly to the forefront of the narrative.
