Serenata

Suitable for performance after one year of instruction, this Latin-flavored dance is an excellent study in independent playing for young bands. With steady percussion, bass staccato articulations, clarinet and horn ostinatos, and muted trumpets, there are many teaching moments presented. A contrasting middle section lets your band focus on smooth articulations and alternating melodic lines. Program this for a lighter moment in your concert that also helps students learn important musical concepts.

Sesenta

Sesenta was composed to celebrate the 60 years of leadership by Dr. Guy Foreman with the Michigan City Municipal Band. The piece opens with an exciting and energetic theme, with the tempo staying brisk throughout. The dynamic shifts and rhythmic patterns reflect both the celebratory nature of the anniversary and the progression of time. Solos from soprano saxophone, flute, and euphonium add color to the piece, while the final fanfare-like coda provides a majestic conclusion.

Setting Sail

With its title is taken from the text of Walt Whitman's poem "Leaves of Grass," Setting Sail is an epic new piece that is expansive and sophisticated. Its luxuriant, reticent opening moves into beautiful lyrical lines and all-encompassing harmonies before leading into the journey at sea, punctuated with a cool 6/8 groove. To finish, we have a climactic return of the original lyrical material. This is a large-scale work of dramatic proportions.

Seven Springs

A bold and Dynamic new overture from composer Larry Clark. This is a tour de force for your budding horn section, including a heartfelt slow section that is simply outstanding. Alert your contest list committee, this piece is destined to become a standard.

Shadow of the Sphinx

Shadow of the Sphinx transports listeners to ancient Egypt, where the relentless labor of workers who built monuments in the desert was marked by exhaustion and pride. The music evokes the vastness of the desert and the mysterious grandeur of the Great Sphinx. The piece uses light percussion to mimic the movement of camels and slow, deliberate melodies to reflect the weariness of the workers. Attention to precision and balance between the instruments will help recreate the mystical, ancient atmosphere.

Shadows

Written in memory of a prominent band director who touched the lives of so many, Shadows is an extremely emotional and passionate piece by composer Scott Boerma. It demonstrates Scott's heartfelt thoughts of admiration and sincerity through this gorgeous piece of music. We are proud to offer such a contemplative work and to have him in the Carl Fischer Music catalog for the first time. We hope to offer more of Scott's beautiful music in the near future.

Shenandoah - Larry McKenna

Here is a different sound for the traditional American folksong. Larry McKenna, a great jazz musician, wrote this work with jazz harmonies in jazz ballad style. It is easy to play and Larry knows how to make great voice leadings so it is easy to go from one note to another. 1st clarinets cross the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is C#.
