Based on a 19th-centuryschool hymn still performed today by students at Rugby Middle School, this composition opens with a fanfare followed by a British-style march. A beautiful, lyrical andante section leads to a restatement of the march. With contrasting dynamics, tempo changes, plenty of independent lines and a tuneful melodic approach this concert or contest composition is perfect for working on musical concepts with young musicians.

The letters in the title of this piece serve as its musical inspiration. The piece is designed as a concert opener and has qualities reminiscent of the great fanfares from composer John Williams. The music features tight harmonies with brass flourishes and soaring woodwind lines punctuated by timpani and percussion.

Safety - Harold Bennett

Safety is yet another delightful little march from Henry Fillmore written under the pseudonym of Harold Bennett. Larry Clark has breathed new life into 18 of these excellent young band marches already and he continues this year with a tuneful one in 6/8 time. This is an important time signature in the march form and will prepare young students for more advanced 6/8 marches by Fillmore, Sousa and others.
