Not So Silent Night - Anonymous
Using the basic melodic shape of Silent Night, Sean O'Loughlin has written a lively piece that goes in a quite different, more up-to-date direction than the familiar, refl ective Carol. The noise makers of the percussion section are given a lively role to play, and the introduction, by the low brass, of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, in the middle of the piece, creates a somewhat ironic twist in this amusing re-imagining of a classic carol.

Oceania Dances
Oceania Dances uses traditional music from Tahiti and Hawaii, islands located in the geographic region of the Pacific Ocean commonly referred to as Oceania. The recurring rhythms, prominently presented in the percussion solo sections, are derived from frenetic percussion music used to accompany Tahitian dancers. This piece gives you the chance to include the music of other cultures, but yet still has all of the traits of solid band literature. You can't go wrong with this selection for contest/festival.

Oceanus
Oceanus was the sea-god of Roman mythology who was the father of rivers and streams, and was personified as a huge river that circled the earth. The piece begins with the rippling of water as it endlessly circles the world, and builds into a depiction of the rolling waves of the deep ocean and the storms that move across the surface of the waters.

Of Metal and Magic
Inspired by Norse mythology, this piece depicts the creation of Odin's spear, Gungnir, forged by the dwarf Dvalin. The music captures the meticulous work of the blacksmiths, with percussion and woodwind instruments tapping on music stands and using metal sounds to mimic the forging process. The steady tempo and unified articulation emphasize the deliberate crafting of the mythical weapon.
