Minute March is a beginner-friendly piece that emphasizes light, flowing march rhythms. The focus is on teaching young students the difference between staccato, accents, and tenuto, with the conductor bringing out these articulations to highlight the character changes in each section.

Molly Pitcher

This piece is part of The American Legends series and tells the story of Molly Pitcher, a woman who took over her husband's cannon crew duties during the American Revolution after he was injured in battle. This impressionistic composition about these vanished structures, although written for more advanced ensembles, has only one flute, clarinet, trumpet, horn and trombone part. As a result, smaller bands can play this composition without having to look for a flex-band arrangement. Use this to develop the essential skills of syncopation and counting while also offering the security of only having one part for each instrument voice. An exciting contrasting selection for bands looking for a harmonically interesting composition, this also works well as a contest selection.

Morning In Madrid - Bill Calhoun

Spanish-style rhythms, melodies and harmonies abound in this lovely new concert work from composer Bill Calhoun. From the opening "bird-like" calls from the woodwinds accompanied by the ascending chords in the clarinets and the brass, one can picture the sun rising above the horizon at the start of a Morning in Madrid. This piece will help you teach your students about lyrical expression while playing.

Morning Star

Morning Star was commissioned by the conductor of the Grand Ledge, Michigan High School Wind Symphony, Michael Kaufman, to celebrate the opening of the school's new concert hall. It was premiered by the students in May of 1997. Morning Star is a happy piece about beginnings: the dawning of a new day, the opening of a new hall, the beginning of adult life for the young people who premiered the piece, and for those who are playing it now.
