Moontowers

Written for intermediate-level bands, Moontowers intends to evoke a fantastical atmosphere containing huge mythical constructs - such as stone edifices - that rise from a lunar surface, softly illuminated by reflected light from another galactic source, while also allowing listeners to create their own, more specific visual interpretation. The piece also pays homage to the metal towers that once existed in cities through the U.S. intended to brighten the areas at times when there was insufficient natural moonlight. A perfect selection for those directors in search of a contemplative work to round out concert programs.

Morning Glory

Morning In Madrid - Bill Calhoun

Spanish-style rhythms, melodies and harmonies abound in this lovely new concert work from composer Bill Calhoun. From the opening "bird-like" calls from the woodwinds accompanied by the ascending chords in the clarinets and the brass, one can picture the sun rising above the horizon at the start of a Morning in Madrid. This piece will help you teach your students about lyrical expression while playing.

Morning Star

Morning Star was commissioned by the conductor of the Grand Ledge, Michigan High School Wind Symphony, Michael Kaufman, to celebrate the opening of the school's new concert hall. It was premiered by the students in May of 1997. Morning Star is a happy piece about beginnings: the dawning of a new day, the opening of a new hall, the beginning of adult life for the young people who premiered the piece, and for those who are playing it now.

Mother Earth (Fanfare)

Composer David Maslanka brings a short 3-minute fanfare into existence based on inspiration from a prayer by St. Francis of Assisi. Often high school bands do not get the opportunity to perform music by this important composer due to their length and difficulty, but this piece is well within the reach of many high school groups. Certainly it will be a standard in the repertoire.

Mount Vernon Square

Named after the location of Peabody Conservatory, where the composer took his first music theory classes, this traditional march offers great opportunities to work on aspects of tempo, articulation and dynamics that are essential for march interpretations. Every performer should experience the classic march form and this new march, which honors greats of the past, is a perfect opportunity to do just that!

Mountain Beauty

Written to portray the mountains along the North and South Carolina border, this lighter allegro overture is written in ABA form. With many dynamic contrasts, articulations, and short solo opportunities, this piece teaches many essential musical concepts. The legato middle section lets the ensemble focus on tone quality and phrasing. A return to the opening section's style ends this composition in an exciting manner. A great choice for concert or contest.
