King Karl King - Henry Fillmore

Originally written for a film (The Big Brass Band) that was never made, this terrific but little-known march turned out to be the last march that Fillmore would write. Unusually rich in harmony, it was not published in Fillmore's lifetime. He had asked that it be named after his friend and fellow march composer, Karl L. King, if the movie was not produced.

Kingsridge

Kivgik

Meaning "messenger" in Inuit, Carl Strommen's piece Kivgik was inspired by the composer's observance of a large gathering of the Inuit people in Alaska. Carl has tried to emulate the sound of their drums being used for communication. The piece also contains bold harmonic colors and driving 6/8 rhythms. There is a nice repose section in the middle of the piece that symbolizes the more solemn parts of this annual gathering or Kivgik. This multicultural piece offers many unique, cross-curriculum teaching opportunities and will be perfect at your next contest or festival performance.

Kolomoki

The "Kolomoki Mounds" are one of the largest and earliest Woodland Period earthwork mound complexes in the Southeastern United States. Constructed between 350-600 A.D., the eight mounds include a Great Temple Mound, a ceremonial mound, several burial mounds and a large plaza in the center where some 1,500 residents lived in a large village of thatched houses. This rhythmic piece pulses with life and celebrates the Swift Creek and Weeden Island Indian peoples who lived there. Kolomoki is designed to make your beginners sound great.

La Paloma - Sebastian Yradier

Lake Dances

After a mysterious opening where the main thematic material is stated by a single flute, the piece builds to a dramatic climax and then leads to a fast paced dance theme ending with a folk song theme. It is a perfect showcase piece for festival performance that is both sophisticated and educational.

Land of Pharaohs

The mystery and romance surrounding Egypt's Nile river, expansive deserts, mighty pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and legacy of art and culture has inspired generations of men and women around the globe. In ancient Egypt, the word "Pharaoh" meant "Great House," referring first to the royal palace itself and later to the ruler in power as an official title of leadership. Land of the Pharaohs is a short, musical depiction of the power that the ancient Pharaohs once held and the drama that has captivated mankind since the end of their long reign.
