Air Base March

Air Base March is a tribute to Maj. Frank H. Blakey and the men of the 305th Airdrome Squadron, who served during World War II. The squadron was tasked with establishing and maintaining air bases in the jungles of New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. This piece honors their bravery and sacrifices, particularly the memory of Maj. Blakey, who was killed in action in 1944. The march emphasizes dynamics, careful attention to eighth-note rests, and distinctive sections, including a bugle call and a final powerful conclusion. Through this composition, the memory of the men who served is kept alive.

A fresh new composition in the Lydian mode by composer Alan Lee Silva. This piece flows effortlessly and exudes a myriam of colors that are possible from a young concert band. This will be the piece your audience talks about for years to come.

Aisling Gaelach

Composer William Harbinson takes two Irish folk songs and weaves them together in a tapestry of sounds in a symphonic setting. This piece has contest/festival potential written all over it, as we are sure your music list committee will agree.

Albion Sketches

Three British folks songs are given the Carl Strommen treatment in this contest style rhapsody. Carl's lush scoring, interesting harmonic twists and flowing melodic lines are all present in a piece that will highlight the strengths of your ensemble. The variety in this setting will make it an audience favorite.

Alexander's Ragtime Band - Irving Berlin

One of Irving Berlin's most popular songs is given the big band treatment by Jerry Nowak. It starts out with an up tempo swing, dense with harmony, and leads to a jazz ballad in the middle of the piece. This is then followed by a swing roll-off and a catchy Dixieland treatment of the tune by a brass quintet. It finishes up with the full band swingin' at the end. Great for pops concerts and for community bands.

All the While

All the Whilewas inspired by a very special person in Tyler Arcari's life. Director's will be happy to find many opportunities for emotional and passionate playing with plenty of fun in the middle for young bands. All the While gives students a number of chancesto work on expressive playing during the beginning and ending sections, and offers a light rhythmic middle section for contrast.

Allegiance

Inspired by the mutual respect and devotion that can arise between a good band director and student players, Larry Clark has crafted a typically energetic and exciting overture-style piece for band. Full of great scoring, including some nicely challenging timpani writing, and several memorable melodies, this is a great showcase for the capabilities of a high school or good middle school band.
