Fanfare Supernova

Fantasy on Capriccio Italien - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Capriccio Italien was based on Italian folk songs and was composed by Tchaikovsky in 1880. The work was inspired by his trip to Rome. This fantasy utilizes the capriccio's themes in order to capture the essence of Tchaikovsky's music for concert band. Although technically reduced for medium to medium-easy ensembles, it still retains all the fire and energy of the masterwork. This is a wonderful selection to not only introduce a classical composer but to also work on phrasing, balance, and dynamic contrasts.

Farallones

Farallones is inspired by the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) off the Northern California coast. Farallones (Spanish for "cliffs") are a set of islands sometimes referred to as The Devil's Teeth by mariners - citing the many dangerous underwater shoals and shipwrecks. The opening section in 7/4 depicts the rugged environment around the islands. Descending scalar motifs and trills emphasize the fluidity of the seascape. The 12/8 section is a development depicting the resilience and dangerous beauty of the area.

Farandole - Georges Bizet

Your band will love to perform this famous Bizet theme in a playable arrangement by Andrew Balent. The piece is musical enough to use for contest/festival performance yet not too difficult to perform. The tune is familiar enough that everyone in your audience will love it!
