Fanfare for Hope - A. Eric Heukeshoven

Fanfare for Hope was commissioned in honor of the inauguration of Father James P. Burns, the 14th President of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The fanfare is based on the hymn tune Melita, more commonly known as the Navy Hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, with the text "My hope is built on nothing less ..." serving as the inspiration for the piece. The opening brass fanfare features the uplifting first notes of the tune transitioning into a legato treatment for the woodwinds and horns. The theme builds as the brass and percussion eventually return leading back to the original fanfare. The music ends triumphantly with the entire ensemble joining in celebration.

Fanfare Supernova

Open your beginning band's very first concert with this bold new fanfare by popular composer Larry Clark. Like a supernova, your band will explode right from the start with this forceful new piece that sounds much more difficult than it is to play. Fanfare Supernova contains biting fanfare-like harmonies, though it only contains the first six notes of the Bb scale and the most difficult rhythms in the winds are quarter notes.

Fantasia for a King

Brilliantly scored and cleverly constructed, this treatment of the familiar Christmas Carol "Good King Wenceslas" is symphonic in scope and breadth. As usual with Thurston, the harmonies re sophisticated and rhythmic interest is maintained with shifting meters and accents. Fantasy on "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"

This fresh interpretation of the Christmas standard will develop your player's expressive and technical abilities while still engaging and delighting audiences. Not your usual holiday selection, this fantasy also works well as a concert, contest or festival opener or closer. Beginning with a chorale statement of the original hymn, the ensemble soon encounters an expanded percussion section, changing time and key signatures, unique rhythmic patterns and various musical styles, while individual players are challenged with syncopation and dynamic demands. A truly inspiring and rewarding composition for holiday concerts, contest or festival.

Fantasy on Capriccio Italien - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Capriccio Italien was based on Italian folk songs and was composed by Tchaikovsky in 1880. The work was inspired by his trip to Rome. This fantasy utilizes the capriccio's themes in order to capture the essence of Tchaikovsky's music for concert band. Although technically reduced for medium to medium-easy ensembles, it still retains all the fire and energy of the masterwork. This is a wonderful selection to not only introduce a classical composer but to also work on phrasing, balance, and dynamic contrasts.

Fantasy On Early American Tunes

Farallones

Farallones is inspired by the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) off the Northern California coast. Farallones (Spanish for "cliffs") are a set of islands sometimes referred to as The Devil's Teeth by mariners - citing the many dangerous underwater shoals and shipwrecks. The opening section in 7/4 depicts the rugged environment around the islands. Descending scalar motifs and trills emphasize the fluidity of the seascape. The 12/8 section is a development depicting the resilience and dangerous beauty of the area.

Farandole - Georges Bizet

Your band will love to perform this famous Bizet theme in a playable arrangement by Andrew Balent. The piece is musical enough to use for contest/festival performance yet not too difficult to perform. The tune is familiar enough that everyone in your audience will love it!
