    Diamond Reflections

Diamond Reflections was composed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. The work progresses from a somber, militaristic intro to a jovial symphonic ending, exploring various ensemble colors along the way. The U.S. Air Force Song is suggested throughout the work and the Air Force Hymn, Lord, Guard & Guide, makes an appearance as a trumpet solo and horn soli. This grand and well-scored piece is great for all of your patriotic programming needs.

    Dies Natalis

Hanson proclaimed the Lutheran chorale of his youth as "the greatest single musical influence in [his] life as a composer." The chorale makes several appearances throughout his catalog, but this seminal band work makes full use of the Dies Natalis in opening statement, five variations, and a finale. It received its premiere on April 7, 1972, at the Eastman Theatre, performed by the Eastman Wind Ensemble under the direction of Donald Hunsberger in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Eastman School of Music. For high school bands and above. Dur.: 15'

    Distortion

Distortion is a fun and unique composition written for young band and electric guitar, inspired by the author's grandson Owen, who plays trumpet and guitar. The piece features electric guitar with distortion, offering an exciting and fresh experience for both band and beginning guitarists. The guitar part, which primarily consists of power chords, includes a short solo that can either be improvised or played as written. A drum set part is included, but it's recommended to feature either the drum set or percussion, not both. This piece is a break from traditional wind band literature and allows for a creative, dynamic performance that will excite both performers and audiences.

    Doctor Tritonicus

The tritone is often considered a diabolical interval, used by composers to musically portray something sinister. Doctor Tritonicus depicts a character inspired by the genre of comic book villains. The Doctor appears in the form of tritones throughout this musical superhero adventure, interwoven with the chimes of Hell's Bells and lurking in ponderous intervals beneath lyrical melodies.

    Doppler Effect

The term Doppler Effect describes the aural phenomenon of something changing pitch relative to what direction it is traveling in relation to the listener. An example is when a siren coming towards you is higher in pitch then when it is going away from you. Sean O'Loughlin uses this fascinating concept to construct an original composition that uses instances of this effect. A broad melody acts as a connective element in the piece, with a multitude of teaching opportunities for dynamics and musicality.
