Cold Mountain Saga

Cold Mountain in North Carolina was recently made famous by the best selling novel and major motion picture of the same name. This piece for young band is not intended to depict the story of the book or movie, but rather to depict the rich history and natural beauty of the area itself. The hauntly beautiful melody first stated by a recorder is one of the most memorable Larry has every written.

Colonial March

Colonial March is a stately British style march for beginning bands. George Washington served in the British colonial army prior to the American Revolution when he became the colonies' Commander-in-Chief and later the first President of the new nation. Two melodies, Yankee Doodle and America (My Country 'Tis of Thee or God Save the King) were known to both the British and American armies and are incorporated in this precious march for the youngest of students.

Colossus

A fanfare-like piece that makes even the youngest of players sound advanced beyond their abilities. Its technical demands are very limited, but the music is daring and exciting for the players and audience alike. Another winner from Larry Clark!

Come, Emmanuel

Come, Emmanuel is based on the traditional Christmas carol O Come, O Come Emmanuel. The piece begins with a beautiful introduction, where moving passages are passed throughout the band over lush harmonies. The main melody, introduced by the clarinets and euphoniums, is then followed by contrasting sections that feature both the woodwind and brass choirs. These sections incorporate unconventional harmonies, creating a rich and varied texture. The piece concludes with the full band on the chorus. With its varied instrumental features and teaching moments, this piece offers both musical depth and educational value.

Commence!

A driving composition from Sean O'loughlin,Commence!begins with a spirited theme that oscillates between triple and duple meter. After developing into a heartfelt lush brass chorale, the lilting theme returns again. The composition concludes with a dramatic return of the B theme and a rousing finale. A beautiful piece,Commence!is astrong choice for any contest or festival.

Concerto for Marimba and Band

This concerto has the character of a fantasia rather than a traditional concerto, unfolding in two broad sections. The first is quiet and serene, featuring rhapsodic melodies and transparent textures. The second builds from a powerful dynamic rise into a brief burst of fast, intense music before settling into a quiet, transcendent close.Scored originally for the U.S. Air Force Band, the work makes prominent use of cello sonorities. For ensembles without cellos, all cello parts have been cued into other instruments. Written for a five-octave marimba, the solo part may be adapted for smaller instruments where needed and requires no amplification. The solo marimba part has been edited by Randall Eyles.
