Carol of the Bells - Mykola Leontovich

This fun, fresh, and flexible arrangement of the beloved holiday classic Carol of the Bells, from Carol Brittin Chambers, can be played with as few as five wind or string players! The various recognizable motifs are passed around the ensemble, giving everyone something interesting to play. Chambers incorporates energetic grooves with the bass line and percussion, as well as a new B melody that adds extra technique and a fresh sound. Students and audiences will love this fresh take on the classic in your next holiday concert, and educators will love Chambers' attention to the pedagogical details. Use this piece to introduce or reinforce the following musical concepts: Steady pulse in a driving 3/4 meter, definition of ostinato, accidentals (minimal), and syncopated feel (minimal)

Cascabeles

With a fresh Latin American groove, this adaptation of the holiday favorite "Jingle Bells" will be a unique addition to any holiday concert. Although a holiday choice, the articulation and rhythmic accuracy demands will let you teach while students enjoy. With expanded percussion, plenty of syncopation and interesting melodic and accompaniment twists, this almost leaps off the page!

Castlebay

This fresh new setting of two traditional Scottish folk songs, Will Ye No Come Back Again and Keel Row, was written in honor of its namesake, the Scottish village Castlebay. Composer Gene Milford has crafted a well-scored offering for contest/festival performance that is reminiscent of English-style band pieces. After the striking opening, the piece moves to the more fiddle-like Keel Row in a lilting 6/8. All of the sections of the ensemble get to shine and the band will sound formidable with this piece.

Catawba Crossing

Named for the beautiful Catawba River, this piece begins with a brilliant fanfare, revealing the principle motive upon which the entire composition is based. Shifting tonalities and colorful scoring are the hallmark of the opening section. This is followed by an expressive con moto section that provides the piece with dramatic contrast. Once the opening theme returns, Catawba Crossing develops into a rousing march in 6/8 time, followed by a return to the opening material, bringing the piece to an exciting conclusion. An impressive choice for contest or festival performance.

Caves of Sacromonte

The Caves of Sacromonte are located in Granada, Spain. This complex of whitewashed cave houses were dug into the hillside, providing safety for inhabitants and shelter from the harsh Andalusian sun and the winter rains. Today, the mysterious caves remain as an ethnographic museum of a forgotten age. Experience the Spanish-influenced sound of music depicting these ancient wonders.
