The piece combines a majestic brass fanfare with musically expressive themes for a real celebration in sound. Effective scoring allows all sections to contribute important lyric material before returning to the allegro brillante tempo and another rousing fanfare to bring the work to a dramatic conclusion.

Nikola Tesla was one of historys greatest inventors. Teslas Dream begins with a soft, contemplative flute solo, backed by gentle mallet percussion as though we are witness to his "lucid dreaming," which he believed was the source of his most creative ideas. This theme is repeated, growing to a full ensemble impact which represents the moment of creation and inspiration coming to fruition. The music then becomes faster, with strong Eastern European overtones that reflect his Serbian heritage. The initial tranquil flute melody gradually transforms into a frenetic dance, symbolizing Teslas many wide-swinging moods and colorful eccentricities.

The Journey - Brant Karrick
The Journey attempts to musically portray the experience offeraveling on an early ship, crossing the vast and tumultuous ocean to an uncertain destination. Cast in a rollicking 6/8 meter, the first theme in D minor signifies determination and perseverance, while the second theme signifies hope and faith. The music tosses and turns as the theme is passed to each section and continues to press on to a triumphant landing! We are excited to welcome the music offerant Karrick to the Carl Fischer Music catalog.

Originally written as part of the Commissioned Works for School Bands sponsored by Carl Fischer on the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the firm, Ginger Marmalade has become one of the best known of serious twentieth-century works for school band. A humorous program number that plays with the listener's expectations, it is technically simple, but uses unusual sound resources (clapping hands, rapping heels, novel percussion sounds) o produce a work that delights the ear and challenges the mind. Often cited as a cornerstone of the young band repertoire (it is on both the UIL - Texas and NYSSMA required music lists), we are pleased to issue this delightful pieceas part of our Carl Fischer Classic Band Edition.

The symphonic poem 'Loch Ness' consists of five through-composed impressions of this mysterious Scottish Lake. I) The Lake At Dawn - calm, static, sonorous blocks depict the troubled opaque water surface and the enormous depth of the Lake at daybreak. II) Slowly the rising early-morning mist reveals the distant ruins of Urquhart Castle, represented by a solemn theme in the trombones which is taken over by the full band, thus evoking the illustrious past of this fortress besieged so many times. III) Inverness: Bagpipes and Tourists - the music takes us down to the town of Inverness where the first tourists mark the slow but steady start of a new season to the sound of a Scottishmelody. IV) Storm - suddenly a heavy wheater breaks: fierce gusts of wind and heavy showers transform the erstwhile calm surface into an obscure and whirling mass of water, and clouds rapidly passing over offer an eery scene... V) Conclusion - storm and rain gradually decrease and when everything is quiet again we are granted a last view of the Lake in its full glory.
