Praise to the Lord Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This composition, based on the hymn Praise to the Lord, is comprised of eight separate parts that can be played together as a concert piece or opening work. The A and B sections are different openings, C is four-part arrangement of the hymn, D is a solo for four saxophones, or two trumpets and two trombones, E is a calm intermezzo, F a solo for trumpet or cornet, and G and F finally are a majestic or peaceful closing section. Released as a charity single in aid of The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, this sublime work was composed by Debbie Wiseman OBE and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after her death in September 2022. This tender and contemplative piece was played many times during the BBC's live coverage of the ceremonies across ten days of national mourning; and the full three-minute piece was played at the end of the Queen's State funeral, following Kirsty Young's emotional final words, and accompanied by a poignant and beautiful montage of images from the events of the day. The piece is now available for wind bands through this arrangement by Andrew Wainwright, with permission kindly granted by Debbie Wiseman. Hydra Concerto - Ferrer Ferran
The innovative Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran has taken Greek mythology as an inspiration for his concerto for trumpet and concert band. Hydra, the water monster decapitated by Hercules and Iolaus, terrorised the area of Lerna, near Argos. The concerto is in three sections which contrast with each other. The first section is rhythmical and triumphant, the second is calm and melodious and the last part provides an aggressive ending. A welcome addition to the repertoire for solo trumpet and concert band.
