Hawkeye Festival Overture begins with a bright opening fanfare which leads to a rhythmic Allegro section. An Andante section in 3/4 time features a lyric trumpet solo and numerous harmonic suspensions. A driving percussion interlude in 5/4 with a gradual pyramid that builds in the winds leads to a return of the Allegro. The work ends with a powerful re-statement of the syncopated 5/4 motives and finishes with a flourish. This very appealing work is well-suited for developing concert bands and should provide excellent opportunities for studies in general musicianship, intonation and rhythmic precision. Duration: 4.45

The Glacier Express is a famous Swiss excursion train that has travelled through the Swiss countryside between Zermatt and St. Moritz since 1930. Larry Neeck's composition is clearly descriptive of the train's journey and the spectacular scenery that passes throughout mountains, glaciers, lakes, tunnels and quaint Swiss villages. Lots of musical contrasts including a nice trumpet solo and interesting parts for every section! Ample percussion parts are sure to keep even a large "herd" of drummers both interested and involved. This work is mainly based onTraditional Scottish melodies. After a brief introduction we hear "The Wee Cooper o' Fife" played firstly by a solo trumpet followed by a tutti version. "Highland Laddie" appears, initially featuring saxophones and then passed around the band. The slow middle section is an original which I felt complemented the other melodies in the piece. A recapulation leads to a final section with an augmented version of "Highland Laddie" from the middle of the band with a version of "The Wee Cooper" in the upper winds. The work ends with a final majestic statement.

Engelberg Variations was composed for the Hibriten High School Band in Lenoir, North Carolina and is based on the hymn, "When In Our Music God Is Glorified." It opens with a flourish of activity from the brass and percussion. This gives way to the statement of the theme set in a lovely woodwind chorale featuring flutes and oboes. A lyrical trumpet solo takes the band to a soaring tutti statement of the theme which gets interrupted by a percussion-filled staccato variation. Fragments of the theme are then heard in fun variations juxtaposed against the original theme in augmentation. Engelberg Variations is destined to become a classic! Duration: 6.45

On the otherhand within the city walls there is La Cittadella, a complex of buildings where severely handicapped people are taken care of by sisters.
