Steven Spielberg's 2002 film Catch Me If You Can was set in the 1960s, and John Williams created a marvelous film score evoking the style of the progressive jazz movement popular during that time. Soloists on alto saxophone, vibraphone and string bass are featured in this suite of three contrasting movements. "Closing In" relates to the often humorous sleuthing ever present in the story. This is followed by "Reflections" portraying the fragile family relationships, and finally "Joy Ride" representing the main character's wild flights of fantasy. Duration: 14.00

Birthday Madrigals was written in 1995 to celebrate the seventy-fifth birthday of the great jazz pianist, George Shearing. This arrangement is written for combined band and choir, but may be performed by band alone. In honour of George Shearing's noted style, a vibes part has been added to this arrangement, as well as an optional piano part. The original setting was a suite of five movements. The arranger has chosen three of the movements, numbers 1, 3 and 5, because of their similarity in style. This is a special opportunity for Concert Bands, or combined Concert Bands and Choirs, to perform in a true jazz medium, featuring a set drummer and string bass along with the full band.

£139.00Me and Mrs. Jones - Kenneth Gamble
Me and Mrs. Jones was written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert in 1972, and was first recorded by Billy Paul on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul. The song is about a man who has an affair with Mrs. Jones, and how the two secretly meet every day in the same cafe, even though they may know it's not quite right: "We got a thing going on/we both know that it's wrong/but it's much too strong/to let it go now." Paul has stated that he was sure the song was going to be a hit even before it was released, as "it's a song everyone can relate to", but already from the start the lyrics were considered somewhat controversial and the song were banned from several radio stations. Nevertheless, it became one of the best-selling singles of 1972 and Paul received a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.Well known is also Michael Bubl's version of the song, released on the album Call Me Irresponsible in 2007. It is his version that has been the inspiration for this arrangement, which brings out even more of the jazz elements Bubl has found in the song. The arrangement is quite demanding for the ensemble, and requires great rhythmic precision in particular.

"Answer Me, My Love" was originally written with German lyrics by Fred Rauch and music by Gerard Winkler under the title "Mutterlein". Shortly after, Carl Sigman wrote the English lyrics and gave it the title "Answer Me, My Love" which is now the most famous version. It became a hit in 1953, but it was during 1954 that Nat King Cole recorded it and made it a chart-topper in both the US and Europe. In 2000 the Canadian composer and singer Joni Mitchell included it on her successful record album "Both Sides Now". This song was written in 1931 by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt with lyrics by Gus Kahn. It's now one of the most popular songs from the Great American Songbook and it's also recorded in many versions. Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole are among the most famous ones that have recorded it. In later years singers like Michael Bubl, Diana Krall land Robin Williams have all recorded "Dream a Little Dream of Me". This arrangement is inspired by the version by American band Chicago from their 1995 album release "Night & Day".
