This piece was written for the Nottingham Wind Ensemble to celebrate 30 years of music making. The piece describes a party or celebration deep in Sherwood Forest with the legendary Robin Hood, Maid Marian and the Merry Men. The word "Merry" in those days meant following an outlaw or a leader rather than the way we use it today. The music invites us into the forest with a gentle modal oboe solo which is joined by other instruments as it proceeds to the party. Various melodic episodes introduce elements of folk and dance music from the whole of the British Isles before the music concludes with a recapitulation of the opening bars. The score is written in such a way as to allow bands with fewer resources to play the piece successfully, whilst ensuring a full wind orchestra orchestration is included. Duration: 4.00

Rejoice and sing! was written in celebration of the 95th birthday of Sir David Willcocks. John Rutter writes: I was delighted to be asked by OUP to compose a new carol in his honour. Writing 'Rejoice and sing!' I recalled the many happy Christmas concerts he conducted with the Bach Choir in London's Royal Albert Hall, thinking also of his fondness for quirky rhythms, hence the lopsided 7/8 which runs through much of the music. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by band alone. It is compatible with the original version except that it is transposed down by one-half step (semi-tone).

Venezuelan pianist and composer Moises Moleiro Sanchez was born in Zaraza on March 28, 1904 and died in Caracas on June 18, 1979. His most popular work is Joropo, composed for piano solo. This charming work is a typical dance from Venezuela in 3/8 time. Johan de Meij, who was appointed regular guest conductor with the Simon Bolivar Youth Wind Orchestra in 2010, orchestrated Joropo for wind orchestra. It was written as an encore piece for the SBYWO, and is dedicated to the founder of El Sistema, Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu. It has become the favourite encore for the SBYWO for their concerts around the world.Duration: 3.00

A quiet, gentle piece dedicated to the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. In February 2014 Rob Wiffin went to the Isle of Man to conduct a workshop with the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. The year is particularly significant - Island of Culture 2014 is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the Isle of Man. This simple lullaby does not contain any traditional Manx material but was written specifically for the wind orchestra. Despite its Spanish title, the concert overture Fiesta is really Italian, recalling a festival that I saw several times as a child in the late 1960s while holidaying in a village at the southern tip of the bay of Naples. The date is August 15, the occasion the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, celebrated with colourful processions and ritual (some, one imagines, pre-Christian in origin), all rounded off with brass bands and home-made fireworks. - Matthew Curtis. Fiesta was originally written for the orchestra of St. Paul's School in London, It has had performances in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Festival Hall where it opened a live broadcast concert in the BBC's International Festival of Light Music, and has made intermittent appearances on the radio ever since. This arrangement for Wind Band will make an excellent festival opener for accomplished bands and is a sure crowd pleaser with its dynamic flare and energy.

Every year a competition for wind orchestras and brass bands takes place in Wallberg, Switzerland. Apart from a hymn and a solo piece, all orchestras also have a compulsory piece to play. The commission to create a compulsory piece for the 2012 competition fell to Jan de Haan. The composition is entitled Musica Helvetica. It takes the form of a three-part concert work, in which the last two parts flow directly from one to the other. The first part, Musica Prima, is a brisk virtuoso opening with jazz flavours woven in. The following section, Musica Sacra, offers a contrast with an extraordinarily colourful instrumentation for the gorgeous main theme. The final part, Musica Alpina, is inspired by the great variety of scenery in Switzerland. With its witty humour it makes a worthy conclusion to this beautiful tryptich.Duration: 12.00
