This version of Escape from Thunder Mountain by Scott Watson is designed with maximum flexibility for use by any mix of instruments: wind, strings, and percussion, including like or mixed-ensembles with as few as 4 players. The suggested instrumentation and a customisable Teacher Map will help you plan out how to best assign parts to suit your ensemble's needs. The 4-part instrumentation will support balanced instrumentation of the lower voices. It also comes with supplemental parts for maximum flexibility. With the purchase of this piece, permission is granted to photocopy the parts as needed for your ensemble. A percussion accompaniment track is also available as a free download. Conclusions is inspired by three of the worlds greatest astronomers; their lifes, work and pioneering conclusions. 1: Copernicus. Nicolaus Copernicus lived in the 15th century. He introduced the idea that the planets rotate around the Sun rather than the Earth. This was a new and controversial world view which was not accepted in his lifetime. 2: Galileo. Galileo Galilei lived about a hundred years later and is sometimes called "the father of modern science". He is credited with the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons. His discoveries supported Copernicus' model of the Solar System, and also showed that objects rotate around other planets than the Earth. Galilei was charged with heresy, and had to recant his claim that the Earth revolved around the Sun. "And yet it does move", he is supposed to have said. 3: Newton. Isaac Newton is known for his theory about the law of gravity and how it affects motion. This theory enabled him to accurately calculate the paths of the planets in the Solar System, and was a third conclusion in the astronomical tradition. In the same way that the three astronomers' independent conclusions build on ideas that are common to all three, Conclusions is built up of three independent movements which all include references to each other (melodic, harmonic, inversions etc.) Duration: 11.00

A concert overture with interest and colour for the whole band, Hope Springs Eternal was written during the seemingly interminable lockdowns of 2020. The intention was to compose some positive music as an encouragement during difficult times. It starts with a strident statement before turning fairly shortly to a more reflective response from the woodwind. The opening returns and this time the response is broader before it builds to a peak and unleashes the faster music that follows. Several melodic fragments are introduced before a minor key theme is established. The music becomes lighter as it progresses until it reaches the cheerful and melodic trio section. The minor section makes a brief return before being forever banished by the final statement of the affirmative opening music.Duration: 6.45

Call of the Aboriginals - Uluru - Kata Tjuta was commissioned by Nara Municipal Ichijo Senior High School Symphonic Band, Nara City, Nara Prefecture, Japan, to commemorate their 60th anniversary. Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is an immense monolith rising in the vastness of the Australian outback. Famously also known as Ayers Rock, it is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is a sacred site for the Aboriginal people of the area, the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, but has also become a popular tourist destination, creating cultural and environmental conflicts. This work, which is written in a style typical of the composer, tells a dramatic tale adventure inspired by the life of the indigenous people and the magnificent scenery of Uluru. John Rutter made this setting of an English folksong for The Bach Choir in 1977. The choral part is shown in the score, but is not included as a part of the set. This arrangement is compatible with the choral work which appears in the collections Carols for Choirs 3 and 100 Carols for Choirs, except that it is one-half step (one semitone) lower, until the last key signature change where it is one whole step (one whole tone) lower, than the original.

This lively, attractive march originates from one of the best-known operettas by Franz Lehar, Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), a work that brought the composer enormous success. The operetta features many lovely arias, and catchy dances, but also subtle passages and wonderful singable tunes. One of those is Ja, das Studium der Weiber ist schwer (The study of women is difficult), a tune incorporated in the trio of this march. Lehar obviously had high expectations for it, giving it a prominent place within the operetta. He also used it as an effective finale piece.Duration: 3:15

The tune Old Hundredth is one of the best-known melodies in all Christian musical traditions and first appeared in the 1551 psalter "Pseaumes Octante Trois de David", where it is used as a setting for a version of Psalm 134; it is usually attributed to the French composer Louis Bourgeois (c.1510 - c.1560). The melody was then used in 1561 by the Scots clergyman, William Kethe in Sternhold and Hopkins' Psalter for his paraphrase of Psalm 100, All People that on Earth do Dwell, which is still the most familiar hymn sung to this noble tune. When Tate and Brady's "New Version of the Psalms" was published in 1696, the melody became know as the 'old' version - hence its current title. This arrangement presents three contrasting verses and is effective as a concert piece as well as an instrumental interlude as part of a church service or wedding.Duration: 2:30
