In form, it is a developed rondo, comprising three statements of the main theme (or rather of the main group of themes) and two episodes, together with an introduction, bridge passages and a coda. In each of the three statements of the main group of themes one particular theme appears at the climax, and from it the melodic and rhythmic motifs of the work are all derived. This basic theme is an African melody that has been sung since 1852 by people of African descent in Guiana, South America, in celebration of the abolition of slavery there in that year. How do you experience the final thrilling minutes of a chess game when your opponent has taken the upper hand? And how does it actually feel being beaten checkmate? This piece gives you the answers! There are challenges in use of dynamics, articulation, intensity and gradually increasing tempo. Dissonances are present several places, but the voice leading is diatonic and often in repeating patterns. The whole piece is based on one single scale: Bb major scale with augmented fourth and minor seventh. It is notated as a concert Bb major scale with two accidentals. Feel free to use it during warm-up!

Flicien Doyen, the President of the Tornacum Royal Choir Circle of Tournai (Belgium) and a close friend of the composer commissioned this Mass. Missa Tornacum was originally composed for mixed choir and organ, gave a memorable performance of thepiece in the Chartres Cathedral in France.Although it does not include the Credo, the work is composed according to the traditional structure of a Mass in five parts : Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, and Ite missa est. En the first two parts, adialogue is created between the choir and the band. It is followed by the Sanctus cycle ("Sanctus" - "Hosanna" - "Benedictus"), which is remarkable for the contrasts between the tone colorscharacterizing each of its three parts. The fourth part,Agnus Dei, takes on a tone of serene intimacy. A free counterpoint draws this section to a close by fading into an almost imperceptible quietness. Ite missa est begins with a series of imitations, which develop into a majestic and cheerful passagemarking the end of the Mass. Choir parts are available separately.

Le Cygne - Camille Saint-Saens
Le carnaval des animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by French composer Camille Saint-Sans. Le Cygne is the 13th movement of the suite, originally scored for two pianos and cello: the lushly romantic cello solo (which evokes the swan elegantly gliding over the water) is played over rippling sixteenths in one piano and rolled chords in the other (said to represent the swan's feet, hidden from view beneath the water, propelling it along). It has become a staple of the cello repertoire and one of the most well-known movements of the suite. Many other arrangements of this movement have also been published, with solo instruments ranging from flute to alto saxophone. Dutch arranger Andreas van Zoelen arranged this movement for solo cello with accompaniment of a small Wind Ensemble.

"Celtic" is a widely used term. Its history and culture expands to modern day Spain, Portugal, and North America.However, in this piece, I have based my music on the typical "Celtic" areas of Ireland and Scotland.The Bagpipe drone at the beginning reappears several times.After the introduction, the music transitions to an Irish Reel, The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Reel is a fast tempo dance, often in 4/4 or 2/2 time.Next is the Scottish folksong Auld Lang Syne, known as "Hotaru no Hikari" in Japan.The third movement is called Scotland the Brave. It is often performed by military bagpipe ensembles. Once air is blown into the bag, there is a constant reservoir of sound for Great Highland Bagpipes.A Part (advanced) is a grade 2.5-3 in American grading system. B Part (beginner) is 1-1.5.B Part is accessible for elementary school and junior high school beginning band students in Japan. However, the drone-sounding sections require a certain technique to hold the sound steady.It is my sincere desire that beginning musicians understand the importance of fundamentals through performing good music.Keiichi Kurokawa

Doppler Effect - Sean O'Loughlin
The term Doppler Effect describes the aural phenomenon of something changing pitch relative to what direction it is traveling in relation to the listener. An example is when a siren coming towards you is higher in pitch then when it is going away from you. Sean O'Loughlin uses this fascinating concept to construct an original composition that uses instances of this effect. A broad melody acts as a connective element in the piece, with a multitude of teaching opportunities for dynamics and musicality.
