Thrill Ride - Brendan McBrien
The opening measures of depict our first glimpse of the giant structure. This is followed by the slow ride up the lift-hill and the blood-chilling first drop that begins our journey on this musical roller coaster. Northwoods: Of Might and Mettle - Robert W. Smith
This is a musical depiction of the day of a lumberjack in the late 1800s during the great logging drives in Wisconsin. The work begins with "Daylight in the Swamp," a mysterious setting reminiscent of the early morning conditions. It then transitions to "Waking the Camp" and develops to "Felling the Trees," a very dynamic segment. "The Ice Breaks" and "On the River" draw the composition to a serious conclusion. A most creative work. This is Robert W. Smith at his very best. (6:46)

Plymouth Trilogy - Anthony Iannaccone
In three movements (each tending more towards light rather than ponderous), this is an immensely accessible work that would be appropriate for bands of moderately advanced skills. From a 6/8 march-feel opening, to a reflective middle movement that ends as a pianissimo chorale, to a lively ending rag, this is a great work. Transparent scoring allows players to shine in small groupings and the surrounding ensemble passages sparkle with life and energy.

Largo from Symphony "From the New World" - Antonín Dvorák / arr. David Marlatt

This incredibly simple and beautiful theme has been arranged here for a soloist (Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet or Baritone) and band. This is a great piece to showcase the talents of a member in the ensemble.

Stonehenge Symphony - Paul W. Whear
While not a programmatic piece, necessarily, the composer here evokes the mystery and sense of drama that encompasses the Stonehenge site, as well as the surrounding countryside. At times atmospheric, processional, ceremonial, and celebratory, this is a work with a majesty about it. Paul Whear is a master of writing original works for wind bands and this work takes a proud place with his other publications.
