This is named after a state park in Arkansas where one can actually hunt for diamonds. It is a nice melody with good and interesting harmonies. This is a great work for using your percussion section. The 1st trumpet's highest note is Bb. No clarinet crosses the break.

This is one of Larry Clark's most successful and performed pieces. It is a standard overture with a glorious slower B section, and is already on the required music lists for many states (including Texas and Florida). Now it can be performed by a band with instrumentation problems in this new flexible scoring edition. As few as five players and percussion can perform a full-sounding version of this wonderful work. To prove it, we recorded an excerpted version of the piece where we did just that.

VIEW SCORE PDF This exciting and uplifting processional is the first movement of a festive suite, A Renaissance Christmas, written by Kevin Norbury for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School Wind Symphony. Based on Personent hodie (On this day earth shall ring), this is a short piece imagining a torchlight Yuletide procession (perhaps bearing the traditional roasted wild boar), using a well-known Christmas melody from the large collection of music compiled in the 16th century called Piae Cantiones (1582). The tune is presented twice with accompanying, related melodic material. Layering two songs which speak to the idea of searching for something beyond your current situation, this is an excellent piece for teaching an ensemble to blend so they can hear each other and not be individually heard. Using 900 Miles and The Wayfaring Stranger for compositional material, thematic elements from both are interwoven into the overall musical fabric. 900 Miles' lonely railroad worker is heard in woodwind train whistle effects and the homesickness of The Wayfaring Stranger, as heard in the movie "1917", is effectively portrayed by a moving treatment using long tones with a continuing rhythmic accompaniment. A strong concert, contest or festival choice, this work offers cross-curricular opportunities as well.
