The Sea Of Eternity - Bell

Somber and majestic, "The Sea of Eternity" conveys a feeling of hope and peacefulness. The flowing nature of the melody, combined with the ocean drum, creates a sense of calm wonder, evocative of the vast size and emptiness of the sea. An excellent teaching tool to develop phrasing, blend, and balance. Haunting and evocative!

Benjamin Franklin and the Art of Music - Robert W. Smith

Benjamin Franklin's love for the art of music was well documented in American history. Robert W. Smith has selected three musical moments in Ben Franklin's life and created this unique composition for the concert band. Beginning with a setting of "My Plain Country Joan." a song composed as an anniversary gift to his wife, Franklin's jovial personality is evident through the timelessness of his music. The second section is based on Franklin's glass armonica. The delicate and ethereal sounds of this beautiful instrument provide a quiet moment of reflection for all. The finale is based on Franklin's "magic squares." an arrangement of numbers in a square where all rows, columns and diagonals add to the same sum. Robert W. Smith extracted the melody based on the numeric sequence in a 3 x 3 magic square. The resulting musical statement and fugue truly shows the close relationship between mathematics and music. An amazing concept, an amazing cross-curricular piece!

A Jupiter Fantasy (from the Planets) - Yasuhide Ito

Utilizing the melody from the central section of Holst's "The Planets: IV. Jupiter", I have exclusively written a chorus piece for an event in 1999. Based on that particular piece, a duo for piano and flute was written the same year. Later, more than a total of 30 renditions were written based on the original piece. This version of "Jupiter", arranged for the large wind band, is one of three parts of a three-part composition, which includes "Mars" and "Earth", composed in 2003 and 2005 respectively. The trumpet ad lib kicks off the central section, in which various other instruments could repeatedly perform the section, and ad lib is most welcome too.(Yasuhide Ito)

Triumph of the Skies - Wim Stalman

In Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, one of the most sung Christmas chorales in the world, the announcement of Jesus? birth is highlighted. The melody, originally written by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, has been given words, in which people are called to listen to the glad tidings as sung of by the angels. In their triumphant singing they express their joy and excitement about the birth of Christ. In this work, the chorale Hark! The Herald Angels Sing has been integrated in its entirety, so that it can be performed with choir and/or community singing. This is a wonderful addition to the Christmas concert band repertoire

Quest for the Mountain Top - Richard L. Saucedo

Here is an exciting and powerful work for very young players with one year of experience. Written using a single tempo throughout, a driving 8th note pulse and minor mode provide the underlying energy as the melody is passedaround to different sections of the band. With no syncopation and repetitive patterns, your band will sound great with limited rehearsal time. Dur: 2:20

Angels from the Realms of Glory

The title of this clever arrangement reveals the Christmas song it is based on. The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes, in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High. Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the 'Gloria in excelsis Deo' refrain!

March of the Irish Dragoons - Andrew Balent

Exploring a variety of treatments of the folk song The Minstrel Boy, this concert march opens with the clarinets playing the main theme. After a brief interlude and key change, the trumpets take the melody accompanied by a beautiful woodwind counterline which is followed by a strong final strain with the full band.
