Whirlegigg - Kenneth Hesketh
Whirlegigg is the middle English word for a contraption that continuously spins. A great fascination with many inventors of the medieval period was to develop a perpetual motion machine constantly turning and giving off energy. This idea is particularly apt for this piece. A simple ternary structure gives ample opportunity for both boisterous and reflective material with gyrating accompanimental figures never far away. The machine almost stops near the end, but finally musters one last burst of excitement and energy to bring the work to its close.

Something of a classic in its brass band and piano versions! We are delighted, at last, to make this work available ith wind band accompaniment by the composer. Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the composer - 'The Eyes of God' - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. Movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Now available in versions for piano, brass band, wind band, and orchestra, Euphonium Music can be seen as a major contribution to the literature for the instrument. Together with Max Greger and James Last, he was one of the most successful post-World War II German orchestra leaders in mostly American nightclubs. Gauthier Dupertuis wrote Anemoia as part of his master's thesis at the Lausanne University of Music. It is dedicated to the most significant figure in his musical life: his teacher Jean-Claude Kolly.Anemoia is the name given to the feeling of nostalgia that one feels for a time that has never known. This emotion often translates into the uneasy sensation of having lost something important or of not living at the right place or time. Fascinated by this concept, Gauthier Dupertuis tried to translate it into music oscillating between exaltation, anguish and nostalgia.The piece is formed by two movements: (Un)desired sorrow and Behind the glass of time. The first movement initially evokes the feeling of unease one feels when suddenly struck by anemoia. It then evolves into majestic atmospheres, marking our admiration for times gone by. The second movement treats anemoia in a more melancholic way.The premiere took place on 6th December 2024, during Jean-Claude Kolly's last concert as a conductor of the Concordia de Fribourg, marking thirty years spent conducting this wind orchestra.

£99.00Postcards from Tomorrow - Gauthier Dupertuis
During their childhood, some people have the tradition to put their toys, drawings and wishes for the future into a timebox that they bury somewhere to dig up when they are adults. This has inspired Gauthier Dupertuis for the title of this work: Postcards from tomorrow. What wishes would we put in those boxes for the future; what kind of postcards would we send to our grandchildren? To compose this work, Gauthier Dupertuis was also inspired by three pictures that have some symbolic meaning linked to the question above and that give the names to the three movements that make up this piece.The first movement, Abandoned Blockhouses, refers to war and other horrors in the history of humanity, while Pagoda at the Lake, the second movement, was inspired by the pagoda, a religious building whose function is to house the relics of holy people in Asian worship. The third and last movement, Building Bridges, is a call for hope. In July 221, Postcards from Tomorrow was awarded the first prize at the "La Bacchetta d'Oro" international composition contest in Italy.

After the great success of the Greek Folk Song Suite that has lasted for over twenty years, Franco Cesarini once again ventures into the long and rich tradition of Greek folk music. In his Greek Folk Song Suite No. 2, the three movements that form the piece are named after the three dances reworked by the composer.The first movement, Samiotissa is a kalamatianos, whose most distinctive feature is the irregular 7/8-time signature. It is a festive dance, today considered the Greek national dance, which has roots dating back to antiquity.The second movement, Kato sto jalo is a zeibekiko, a slow-paced dance performed by only one man at a time which was apparently originated among the warriors of Ancient Anatolia.The third and last movement, Chasaposerviko, is the fast part of the hasapiko dance and is characterized by its more extensive form.A new journey into the Greek folk tradition that will delight both performers and audience.

In the first movement they sing a shanty while preparing their ship to sail. I the second movement the pirates sails into a storm. In the third movement they sing a song to open treasure chest. The fourth movement is a dramatic swordfight. In the fifth movement the pirates win at last.
